Meeting the Baby

(Kyla)

"Kyla, you've gone into premature labor." The doctor says.

"What?" I ask shocked.

"The pains you are feeling are the contractions. If you had gotten here earlier we might have been able to give you something to stop the labor." He says.

"No. Please. Give me something. I can't have this baby yet. I'm not ready yet. Please." I beg as another contraction comes and I grab Josh's hand.

"Easy babe. It's going to be okay." He says as tears come from my eyes.

"Breath Miss Smith. It's almost over." The doctor says and I pant.

"I'm sorry. You are too far along to stop it now." He says and he leaves. I start crying.

"Josh, I don't know what to do. I'm not ready. I can't do this." I say as I cry.

"Shhh.... You're going to be okay Kyla. You can do this." Josh says as he takes and kisses my hand. Another contraction comes. I cry out in pain as Josh helps me through the pain.

"It's almost over." He says as it ends and I pant. "It's over baby. It's over. You're doing great baby."

"It hurts, Josh. It hurts so bad." I say as I cry more. Then a nurse comes in.

"Hello. How are we doing?" She asks and all I can do is cry and holds Josh's hand.

"She's in a lot of pain. Can you get her something? Please? I can't stand to see her like this." He says as I sob quietly.

"Does she want an epidural?" She asks and Josh looks at me.

"Do you babe?" He asks and I nod.

"Yes." I say and the nurse nods.

"Okay sweety. We have to wait for the anesthesiologist to come in and we can talk to him." She explains.

"When will that be?" Josh asks as another contraction hits.

"I'm not sure. He's very busy." She says and I start crying as the pain from this one doesn't let up. Josh sighs and I grabs his hand tighter as I roll towards him. The pain then eases up a little.

"Josh, I can't do this." I say and he strokes my hair.

"Yes you can baby. I know you can." He says holding my hand and I cry more. The pain won't let up.

"Okay Miss Smith. Breathe. You'll have a break between contractions." The nurse says.

"No I'm not! There is no break!" I say and I scream in pain. The doctor comes in.

"Okay, Miss Smith. How are you doing?" He asks and Josh glares at him.

"Look I don't know who needs to get here. But they need to do it quick. She's in a lot of pain." He says angry.

"I understand, sir. But he is working as fast as he can. He's-" He begins to say but Josh cuts him off.

"I don't care! Look she's been through a lot. A lot of pain and I've never seen her this desperate. So do something about it!" Josh says angry and I grip his hand.

"Josh!" I scream as my body begins trembling. Then the anesthesiologist comes in.

"Hello, Miss Smith." He says and I cry.

"Look she's in a lot of pain. She needs the epidural. Please." Josh pleads.

"OK. I thought so. I have some right here but I need her to sit up." I shake my head.

"I can't it hurts too bad." I say and he comes over.

"If you want this you have to sit up." He says and I cry.
