Charlie's POV
We pulled up to my house and Whippet grabbed my board and his bag from the car, insisting that he'd carry it for me. We went into my apartment and went into the living area. Whippet set the board against the wall and watched as I opened the doors to the balcony.
"If you wanna grab a shower the bathroom is down the hall on your left," I stated. Whippet smiled and gave me a nod before grabbing his bag and heading towards the bathroom. I picked up my phone from the counter and saw I had multiple text messages from my ex boyfriend, David.
David: Pushing me away, Charlotte has been your biggest screw up yet.
David: Charlotte. Pick up you're fucking phone you fat, stupid slut.
David: You will be mine and I promise you, I will find you.
David: You deserve a miserable life.
I put the phone down and wiped away the few tears that had fallen. I felt sick and my hands had begun to shake. I leaned on the counter and took a few deep breaths, trying to stop the panic attack that was about to takeover. What felt like hours was only minutes.
"Charlie, are you ok?" Whippet asked, making me jump.
"Yeah, fine. I'm good," I lied, my voice shaky. His light brown hair was dripping wet and there was worry in his blue eyes. He wore a white muscle tank and black shorts.
"Charlie-" Whippet started but I cut him off.
"I'm going to get a shower. Help yourself to some food if you're hungry," I murmured, pushing past him. I went into my room and into the ensuite. I jumped in the shower and washed the salt from my body as a few tears slipped from my eyes. I got out of the shower and pulled on a pair of black, running shorts and a red t-shirt. I let my hair drip dry and walked back out to the living room. Whippet was on the balcony, looking at the scenery. I walked out to him and leaned on the baling rail.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" I said, the slight breeze was making the trees rustle nearby and making the scent of salt stronger.
"Yeah, just like you," Whippet murmured under his breath. I blushed slightly and pretended I didn't hear what he had just said.
"What do you need help with?" Whippet asked. I left the balcony and went down the hall to one of the bedrooms. Whippet quickly followed and I opened the door to the bedroom. On one side of the room there was a whole ton of flattened cardboard boxes, on the other side was folded clothes and the remaining items that belonged to my Nana that she wanted me to give to charity.
"I didn't pack my Nana's stuff last night and for so long I've told myself that I can do this on my own. I've finally realised that I need help and need to accept help. Think you're up to tackle this mess?" I asked, looking to Whippet. He was a head taller than me but then again, I was actually one of the shortest lifeguards.
"I'm surprised you didn't ask anyone before you started this. Maybe if we work hard enough we'll get all this done tonight," Whippet smiled as we walked into the room. I grabbed the tape and scissors off that I had left on a shelf a few nights before and started putting boxes together with Whippet.
"Ok so the piles of clothes are organised. One pile is tops, shirts and things like that. One is bottoms, one is dresses, one is jackets and coats and the last is shoes," I explained. Whippet just laughed and shook is head.
"You have this down. All you need to do is put everything in boxes, Charlie," Whippet chuckled. I forced a smile and ran my fingers through my hair.
"I know, Whippet. I guess putting everything away and sending it off to charity makes everything so final. My Dad can't help because he's in Adelaide and my Mum is always too busy. My older brother works in the Navy and my other brother lives in Perth. I was the closest to her and everything was left to me," I explained. Whippet came up to me and out his arms around me, holding me close. I buried my head in the crook of his neck and took in his scent. He smelt of salt and vanilla and I felt safe in his arms. I felt a tear roll down my cheek and sniffled.
