Whippet's POV

I was awoken by a whimper and Charlie tossing and turning next to me. I groggily sat up in my bed and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. Charlie's face was scrunched up and she was muttering under her breath. I pushed her hair from her face and shook her shoulder but she didn't wake up.

"Charlie. Charlie, wake up," I stated, shaking her. Charlie jolted up and put her head in her hands. I pulled her close and stroked her hair as she tried to even her breathing out. I thought she'd be in tears but she wasn't, she was only hyperventilating a little.

"Charlie, calm down. Everything is fine," I murmured, pushing her dark hair from her face. Charlie still covered her face with her hands. I took her wrists and took her hands away from her face. She looked up to be with big blue eyes filled with fear. What ever she dreamed about, it had freaked her out big time.

"I'm sorry. This happens at least three or four nights a week," she murmured.

"What did you dream about?" I asked.

"Just stuff from a few years ago. It's nothing," she muttered but I could tell she was lying. I didn't question it because she told me she wasn't ready to share certain things with me just yet.

"Ok, c'mon let's go back to sleep," I whispered, lying back down and pulling Charlie with  me. Her arm was draped across my bare torso and her head was resting on my chest. I stroked her hair, knowing she felt some comfort in it.

"Whippet, thank you," Charlie murmured. I kissed her head and buried my face in her dark hair. Charlie's hair smelt of salt water and seaweed.

"Just sleep, Charlie. I'll be here when you wake up," I murmured. After a while, Charlie's breathing deepened and she was asleep. I lay awake thinking of the events that had occurred over the past few days and what I had learned about Charlie. She's a lot stronger than she realises and her reason to being a lifeguard was amazing. I still had a lot to learn about Charlie and she still had a lot to learn about me but I could tell that Charlie's life hasn't been an easy one.

I eventually fell asleep, feeling happy that I was able to have Charlie on my arms. I was happy to call her mine.

Charlie's POV

The sunlight flooded through the window and I scrunched my eyes up. My head was on Whippet's chest and he had his arm around my shoulder with his hand in my hair. I rubbed my eyes and yawned, accidentally waking Whippet up.

"Sorry I woke you up," I murmured.

"Don't worry about it. It's seven, do you want to train for a while?" Whippet asked.

"How about we just stay in bed for another hour," I murmured.

"Ok, we'll be lazy but let's make pancakes," Whippet mumbled, getting out of bed and pulling on his pants. I pulled the blankets over my head and grumbled. Whippet grabbed my legs and dragged me from the bed.

"Don't pick me up!" I yelled but Whippet did exactly what I told him not to. He put me down and we went upstairs. There was a mirror on the wall am I noticed the small hickey on my neck. Whippet was getting the ingredients out of the fridge to make pancakes when I turned to him.

"Whip, what am I going to do? I can't believe you gave me a hickey!" I exclaimed but couldn't help laughing. Whippet just laughed and we began making banana pancakes and coffee. We sat out on the decking by the kitchen and I felt the sun begin to warm my skin.
