Charlie's POV

I woke up at seven, I quickly got up and made my bed before pulling on my navy bikini bottoms, black shorts and my navy bikini crop top that I wore at work. I tied my hair into a high pony tail and pulled on my running shoes. I grabbed my goggles from the bedside table and walked into the kitchen. The warm, morning sunlight was flooding through the glass windows and door from the balcony.

I had a very light breakfast and a small coffee. It was was seven thirty when I left the house in the morning. To get to the lifeguard tower I could cut across the car parks and the grass but for some reason I always walked the long way around along the path. Maybe it was because I enjoyed the view of the beach.

I locked my door and jogged down the stairs, walking out of the small apartment building. I jogged down to the Bondi Pavilion and waited for Whippet to arrive. I sat on a bench and watched some surfers at the South end while I waited. Whippet soon showed up, wearing blue board shorts and was shirtless. I was able to see the scratches on he torso and right arm that I caused the day before. I felt a pang of guilt in my chest but remembered how he told me not to worry.

"Hey, how are you?" Whippet smiled as he jogged up to me.

"Better than last night," I assured him.

"Awesome. So we're gonna run to Tamarama and the boys will grab our running shoes when we start swimming and we'll walk back to Tamarama after we get to Bronte," he explained. I nodded and looked ahead.

"Ok, let's do this," I smiled as we started running along the coastline. I kept a quick but even pace as I ran, Whippet was almost always by my side.

"Are you putting full effort in or are you holding back because of me?" I asked, panting a little bit.

"I was about to ask you the same thing," Whippet chuckled.

"Then let's put full effort in and see who gets to the Bronte kiosk first," I grinned, breaking out into a full sprint. I looked behind me to see Whippet catching up.

"No fair! You got a head start!" he yelled.

"Five second handicap!" I laughed, as I looked forward and continued running. Whippet was close on my heels. I got to Tamarama a little bit before Whippet and ran down the beach.

"Charlie! Beat Whippet and I'll buy you a beer!" Maxi yelled as I ran past him. I could hear him radioing the boys at Bronte to tell him who got to Bronte first. I kicked off my shoes, putting them on the rocks before putting on my goggles. I jumped into the water and began swimming as hard as I could. A moment later, I heard a splash and saw Whippet behind me.

Whippet caught up to me and we were only centimetres ahead of one another every time we did a stroke. Eventually, Bronte came into view and whoever caught a wave, would most likely win. Both of us were fighting for the one wave as we swam and we both caught the same wave. I stood up as did Whippet and I began sprinting up the beach. I passed some of the lifeguards and Whippet was right on my tail. He was right next to me as we made it to the kiosk.

"I won!" I cheered.

"No! I won!" Whippet retorted as we both fell to the ground, completely puffed out. It was only half eight in the morning now. We both got up and walked down to Bronte, meeting Nicola and Jake at the beach.

"Who won? Maxi and Beardy want to know," Jake laughed.

"I did," I stated, still trying to catch my breath.

"No, I did!" Whippet retorted.

"Bronte lifeguards to Tamarama lifeguards, we don't know who won. It was a tie," Nicola said into the radio.
