Charlie's POV
I was at the gym, lifting weights when Whippet walked in. He did own the gym and had hooked me up with a yearly membership. I wore black, sports leggings and a purple, sports crop, my hair in a French braid and out of my face. I decided to move on to boxing, letting all my frustration from my coffee with my mother out.
"Hey babe. How are you?" he asked as I punched the punching bag.
"Fine. I'm fan-fucking-tastic!" I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
"What's wrong? Is it the guys or family or something else?" Whippet asked. He was wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts with his running shoes on. He wore a SnapBack on his head and his blue eyes looked a little concerned.
"My Mother is a bitch," I grumbled.
"Would you like to share?" he asked.
"She's a lawyer and is very proper and serious person. She has a lot of money and believes that if you don't have a decent job, you'll go nowhere. Jace is in the Navy. Finn is a paramedic and a firefighter and I'm a lifeguard and she doesn't like it at all. She would rather us be politicians and doctors and lawyers," I explained.
"So she basically hates your lifestyle?" Whippet questioned and I nodded.
"She hates Finn's wife who has been there for me a lot more than she has. I was wearing a green t-shirt, black shorts and converse. She walked in in her dress, heels and blazer with her hair, make up and nails done perfectly. She says to me that she knows I got out of a terrible relationship but I'll never get a man dressed the way I was. I was in shorts and a t-shirt!" I exclaimed. I really needed to get this off my chest, Whippet was soon going to learn my Mother was nothing like I was.
"Did you tell her that you had me?" Whippet asked.
"No because then she'd ask what you were like and start judging you before she had even met you! I asked her how her two children were and she goes Bethany and Alexander are going to be politicians and business people! They're sixteen and fourteen and my Mother isn't allowing them to choose their own futures!" I said, hitting the punching bag harder and harder.
"I'm guessing you had a terrible time there?" Whippet murmured.
"Yeah. Charlotte you should be a business woman. Charlotte be less like your Father. Charlotte get a proper job! I have a proper job and no one calls me Charlotte! The reason my dad filed a divorce was because all her business trips were actually going away with the man who is now my Step-Dad and he got her pregnant. She gave Dad full custody of us and if she had had it her way, we wouldn't even see her in the summer. My Nana basically looked after us during the summer holidays!" I huffed.
"Don't listen to her, Charlie. If she won't accept you or the rest of your family then screw her," Whippet sighed. I stopped punching and took a step back, trying to catch my breath.
"It's not like she cared about us anyway because she said I was right when I confronted her about having us in the holidays," I muttered, taking the boxing gloves off. Whippet just kissed my forehead and led me away from the punching bag.
"Feel better after that rant?" he asked.
"Much better, thank you," I grinned.
"Did you call your brother yesterday?" Whippet asked.
"Yeah. I got to see Finn's two year old, Noah and I found out that he and his wife, Carly, are expecting another baby," I smiled.
"That's great. Did you call your Dad?" Whippet asked and I shook my head.
