Whippet's POV
I awoke early for yet another opening shift at Bondi. I would be working with Harries and then Azza and Deano would come on later with a few other lifeguards will be there at nine or before. I pulled on my speedos and then my board shorts before pulling on my blue shirt. I put on my visor and things and walked out of my bedroom and into the kitchen of my apartment.
I grabbed a quick bite to eat and packed my bag for the day. I drove down to Bondi and chucked my stuff in my locker in the pavilion. Harries was already in the tower as I began opening the shutters. I walked into the tower and gave a nod to Harries as he walked past and down the stairs. He began driving the Rhino out with all the equip, met and parked it before heading back upstairs. He walked in and began looking through the roster.
"Hey, Harries. Isn't there supposed to be someone else coming in this morning?" I asked.
"Yeah but Yatesy is feeling sick, he called me before I left my house. I'm going to give Charlie a call and see if she's willing to work a few extra hours," Harries stated.
"Yeah, I think she lives the closest anyway," I stated, coming back into the tower.
"How was she after yesterday's ordeal in the water?" Harries asked.
"Harries, she brushed it off as if it was nothing and maybe that incident seemed like it wasn't a big deal to her but honestly, I think there's something more that's going on with her," I explained.
"Yeah, I've noticed that she's still very cautious around most of us and at the moment I'm putting it down as being only one of two girls on the team and is trying to get used to us all. When you think of it, it must be pretty daunting for her to be working in an all male environment," he explained.
"True but I know her Nana died six months ago and she's the only one who's been able to pack her belongings and she's practically gone through that on her own," I sighed.
My mind wandered to Charlie. I was worried about her but I thought back to day she started working here. She's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. Her dark hair frames her face perfectly and she has eyes as blue as the ocean. She loves surfing, swimming and running and enjoys going to the gym just like I do. Yet there was something about her that I couldn't figure out.
Charlie was hiding something big from everyone, something from her past and I was beginning to see past her smile and see the pain behind her blue eyes. A smile appeared on Harries' face and I looked at him, puzzled.
"Whip, you are so whipped," Harries laughed.
"What are you on about?" I asked with a laugh. Was it that obvious that I kind of liked Charlie? I knew I was falling for her but I couldn't be sure how quickly I was falling for her.
"Mate, you like her. You really like her," he stated. I stopped laughing and glared at him.
"I do not," I retorted.
"Whippet, there is no point in denying it. Most of us can tell that you like her. Of course most of us wouldn't tell her you like her," Harries explained. I let out a long sigh and put my head in my hands.
"Is it really that obvious?" I asked with a groan as I ran my hand through my light brown hair.
"Yeah. Whip, I'm surprised she hasn't picked up on it," Harries mumbled. I let out a groan and watched the sun rise as Harries picked up the phone and called Charlie.
"Alright, Charlie. We'll see you in half an hour," Harries chuckled before hanging up the phone.
"I woke her up by accident so I now owe her a coffee. Whoops," Harries muttered.
