I awoke again that night to a crack of thunder jumping up and rolling out of my bed hitting the floor with a thud. I quickly composed myself and went over to the window to peer out at the trees moving wildly. Panic set in. I opened the shades and huddled up under my blanket keeping and eye on the trees whiling about squeezing the stuffing out of my teddy bear. A few moments later my cell phone began to ring my basic ringtone which was at the moment Honey Bee by Blake Shelton.
“Hello?” I said clearing my throat.
“You okay?” mystery man.
“Yeah.” I said.
“You don't sound like it.” He said.
“Wait.... what do you mean?” I asked.
“I mean you sound like you've been crying.” He said tiredly.
“I just don't like the wind. It's getting pretty wild out there.” I said.
“Anything else bothering you?” He asked.
“Besides my best friend screwing and evil movie star? Not really.” I scoffed.
“I don't think anything actually serrriously happened.” He said
“How would YOU know?” I inquired.
“Just a hunch.” He said plainly.
“Well, I've got news for you. I heard it myself.” I said petting Roman.
“Oh you did, did you?” He laughed.
“Yupp.” I said matter o' factly.
“Well... did that turn you on?” He asked with a chuckle.
“EW! No! I put headphones in to sleep.
“Than how do you know how far it went?”
“Screw you and your good points... just it's not hard to guess to where it led.” I laughed.
“Why does it matter?” He asked
He caught me off guard.... why did it matter? If Jess and Tom liked each other why did it matter? Why did it make me so... so... pissed.
“No, I guess not. Just...” I trailed off.
“Just what?”
“.... she could do so much better!” I wasn't even sure that's what I had wanted to say.
“If she is happy shouldn't you just let it be?”
“DUDE! Please.... be on my side.” I said averting my attention back to the storm.. nothing had changed. The wind was still nuts.
“Well, I still don't think it went too far. Tom wouldn't stop talking about you tonight.. Jess seemed annoyed. She also flirted a lot with Dan.” He said
“Whoa wait! You were with them?! So we know you?!” I asked spazzing.
“Yeah, you both know me.” He laughed.
“This is so not far...” I said as I heard the branches start to rasp my window.
“You aren't okay with this storm are you?” He asked obviously hearing something wrong in my voice.
“I don't mind them. I just don't like strong winds.” I said squeezing my eyes shut.
“Are you watching the storm?” He asked.
“Yeah.”
“Turn away from it. Lay back down if you already aren't.” He demanded.
“I do-”
“Just trust me on this.”
I laid back down getting comfortable under my blankets again with my back to the window.
“So what's your favorite color?” He asked.
“What does that have to do wi-”
“Just answer.”
I sighed “Blue”
“First girl I've met to like the color blue.”
“What are we doing?” Was there seriously a point to this?
“Playing let's keep Delilah's attention off the harsh winds game.”
“Oh really?” I laughed
“That and getting to know each other more.”
I laughed more
“You laugh is beautiful.”
“mmm... you are cheesy.” I accused smiling into my pillow
“Do you like cheese?” He asked
“Yeah.”
“Than I'm okay with that.”
I sighed happily as we talked through the rest of the night.
