Tyler didn’t say a word about the kiss but he smiled the whole way back to my house. When we reached home Mia had fell asleep and Tyler offered to carry her in. I thanked him and opened the door and led him up to my room. I didn’t think Mia was ready to sleep on her own quite yet. After I pulled her shoes off and tucked her in we both made our way down stairs.
Tyler said he couldn’t stay for long but he wanted to ask me something and I nodded at him to continue.
‘Well Edmund wanted to see Mia again and well were both staying at the palace until after the ball. So I was wondering if I could bring Mia to the palace tomorrow to spend the day with Edmund because he isn’t allowed to leave the palace grounds as punishment for breaking something or other.’
‘Of course but she is a lot like me so you’re going to have a hard time keeping an eye on those two. So if they vanish like Caspian and I did when we were kids don’t say I didn’t warn you.’
‘I won’t be the one looking after them I’m actually not going to be at the palace tomorrow. I’m spending the day with a friend.’ He blushed at the end of the sentence and that give me a hint that it wasn’t a male friend.
‘Would I know this friend of yours? Is she from around here because I’m sure Caspian would have mentioned if there were more royals coming to the castle already.’ I watched as he began to squirm and didn’t look me in the eye. Tyler never really left the palace when he was in town unless he was with Caspian and therefore didn’t know anyone around here.
‘Well yes you would know her, I guess.’ Tyler obviously nervous and I weren’t shocked when he promptly went to climb back onto the coach.
‘Have a good time with Eve tomorrow.’ I called after him, happy to see the blush on his face as he rounded the corner.
That night I slept with a smile on my face knowing that my life was changing for the better. Whenever I told Mia she was spending the day at the palace with Edmund she got all excited and after getting dressed wouldn’t step away from the window facing the road. I couldn’t even drag her away from the window for breakfast and instead caved in and let her eat her muffin were she was standing. As soon as the coach pulled up she runs out the door waving a quick good bye. I watched as she was helped into the coach by Tyler who waved at me. I didn’t shut the door until I seen the coach round the corner.
As I walked into my workshop I noticed how empty the house seemed, only a few weeks ago it felt normal. I suddenly realised how much Mia had changed the house. The house felt alive in her presence, it felt like she was part of it yet she hadn’t been here for long. Mia and I were so close for people who barely knew each other. We had some sort of connection and I just wish I could figure out why she was so familiar. Why did it look like I was looking at myself every time I seen her.
I carried on my work as I thought about these questions. I was finished all orders and so I turned my attention to the king’s sword. It was very nearly complete and so it should be because the ball was drawing near. I finish setting the gems in and noticed I had nothing left to do because I still didn’t know what we were engraving into the sword.
After I was finished with the sword I got something to and then noticed that Mia still wouldn’t be home for a couple of hours so I decided I would start working on my weapons for the ball after all you could never be too safe. I would of course be bringing my daggers but I could even turn jewellery into a weapon and no one would ever know. I only used weapons for safety but I never left home without more than one weapon.
