LEO

Characters:

Dr. Gallagher

Leo the Dog

Jacquelyn Stars

ACT ONE

(Scene begins with DR. GALLAGHER working in his pristine white lab, getting ready to drop some blue liquid on a Venus flytrap.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (Hopeful) If this concoction works, my scientific data will make me rich!

(DR. GALLAGHER squeezes 3 drops of the liquid on the plant and waits a moment.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (Frustrated) Gah, why won't you work?! (Desperate) Work, I say! WORK!

(The plant is unaffected by DR. GALLAGHER'S work and remains the same, completely intact.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (Disappointed) Well then... I suppose I'll keep this solution with the others.

(DR. GALLAGHER throws the bottle of green liquid in a wastebasket marked "Broken Dreams". He hears a scratching noise at his door and opens it to find a dog.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (Surprised) Well hello there, little buddy... Do you have an owner? (Looks for a collar and comes up empty) I guess not. (Friendly smile) Well, you can stay here for now, I suppose. But just until someone puts up lost dog posters, though, okay?

(The dog barks and walks inside the lab. His tail is wagging and DR. GALLAGHER picks him up.)

DR. GALLAGHER: Good dog. (Smiles) I'll call you Leo.

ACT TWO

(A year has passed since DR. GALLAGHER found LEO, and owns him now. It is dark out and DR. GALLAGHER is asleep, but LEO isn't. He is in the lab, getting into several different colored chemicals. He wakes up DR. GALLAGHER.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (Wiping eyes from weariness, yawns) Leo, what're you– LEO, NO!

(LEO begins to hover above the grown and turns a sickly green color. His wagging tail turns stiff. He barks at DR. GALLAGHER, and then growls.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (holds hands up in defense, begins to back away) Leo... Calm down... I'm not going to hurt you...

(LEO flies above DR. GALLAGHER'S head and out the window, into the night.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (Angrily) So now my solutions work!

ACT THREE

(Scene begins with LEO destroying the town. He has grown in size and is as large as a grizzly bear. JACQUELYN STARS, a news reporter, is covering the story on a live feed.)

JACQUELYN STARS: (Informative voice) I'm here in downtown Los Angeles, where a giant green dog is destroying the town. How? I have no idea. Why? Still no idea. We caution you to stay inside your basements... If you do not have one, good luck.

(LEO steps on a hotdog stand and crushes it beneath his feet. He grows again in size, now equivalent to a elephant. DR. GALLAGHER appears out of nowhere, holding a ray gun he invented years before. It was the only machine of his that was ever tested and proved successful.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (A motherly tone) Leo, please; stop this now – before it gets any more out of hand.

(LEO looks at his former master and seems obedient for a moment, then shows his teeth.)

DR. GALLAGHER: (Stern) I don't want to do this, Leo, but I will if I have to. For the sake of the city.

(LEO, now the size of a motor home, comes charging at DR. GALLAGHER. He is only mere meters away when DR. GALLAGHER shoots him with the ray gun. LEO falls to the ground, immediately paralyzed. The city is safe once again.)
