"You know what you have to do?" He stared at you and you nodded.
You knew exactly what you had to do. You had to kill one of your own friends. You had to use the gun he had given you and you had to prove that he could trust you.
"So, who are we going to kill first?" He smiled and you hated the way he looked at you. He looked at you as if he had you, possessed you. He looked at you as if you were a prisoner, a trophy.
You weren't. You were nothing but one of them, trying to find out what he was up to, why he was doing all of this, why he was killing them all, one by one. So far you had not gotten an answer.
It started to seem as if he killed because he killed. As if killing was all he did and all he could.
"We should kill Allison." You cocked your head and felt how your throat was thick and swollen. Every word you said hurt and made your heart skip a few beats in your chest.
"Why Allison?" The nogitsune cocked his head. He wasn't judging you. He was amused, he was surprised, he was something in between.
"She's human, but she knows what she's doing when she fights. Without her they will be without control and without a plan." You swallowed and tried to keep your voice strong and steady. The longer you stayed with him and the more you betrayed your friends, the more nervous you became, afraid that maybe you couldn't get out of this as easily as you had thought.
"You're going to kill the brain of the pack so the brute force will be without direction." His surprise turned into admiration, which didn't make you feel that much better. "Smart. Allison will be the first to fall." He left the living room and left you behind for a moment.
You closed your eyes for a short while. You would have wanted to send a text message, to call them. You wanted to tell the pack what was coming, what was going to happen. But you couldn't. You couldn't send them an warning. You couldn't contact them. You were sure that the Nogitsune was aware of everything you did, everything you said.
"Are you ready?" He walked back into the room and you nodded.
You were far from ready and the most of all you were hoping to find a way to warn them, to warn Allison, to warn the pack, to tell them that someone was going to die and that you had to be the one to kill them.
"Where do they usually hang out after school?" The nogitsune raised his eyebrows. He clearly thought of the pack as nothing but children.
"In the loft. They hang out in the loft with Derek." You tried to keep your back straight.
"Good, then we'll go to the loft." He started walking and you followed him.
Your feet were heavier than they had ever been, knowing that every step brought you closer to a huge disaster.
