Chapter 4
~Unexpected guest
Sam’s house is probably the coolest place in the world. He lived on the other side of town where it was mostly country. The house he lived in was just amazing! It was two stories with a basement that Sam used as his room. He used to have parties there all the time when his parents weren’t home, but then he’d have to explain the loud noises to the neighbors.
When we were younger, I would stay over at Sam’s house almost every night. Even now, I sometimes sleep over at his house. Our parents didn’t mind because they knew we were just friends.
So it wasn’t really a big deal that I was over there. They didn’t even care if we slept in the same room… or even the same bed. Yeah, that’s right; Sam and I have been sleeping in the same bed since we were born. Every time I slept over we would share a bed. Why? Well we really don’t know…
Sam opened the car door, holding out his hand to help me out. I grabbed my things and we walked up to his house. Once inside, we quickly headed for Sam’s room, only to be stopped by Sam’s mom.
“Good morning…” She smiled at us as she walked into the kitchen. “Did you eat yet?” I shook my head and continued to walk with Sam to his room. “Breakfast will be done in about an hour. I’ll call you when it’s done.” She disappeared into the kitchen.
Sam pulled me down the stairs and into his amazing room. He had pretty much every game system known to man and a giant 72” plasma screen TV to play them on. Another reason why we always hung out here.
Sam set my duffle bag on his bed and sat down on the couch near the TV. “So what do you want to do?” He lent his head back so he could see him. I wandered over to him and sat down on the couch. “We could play Xbox or…” He looked around his room.
“Tell me about this girl Sam, the one you met yesterday.” I smirked at him. For some reason it seemed like he was avoiding talking about her. “Come on, spill it out…” I giggled and snuggled up to him.
He sighed heavily and wrapped his arm around me. “Well she’s really sweet and she’s not all… slutty like the other girls.” He glanced down at me. “I think I might really like her…”
“WHOAH! Is Samuel Lane Chore falling in love with someone?” I giggled.
“Hey, it’s not the first time I’ve fallen in love.” He looked up at the ceiling, remembering the past. “In like… fourth grade I confessed my love to you and you totally shot me down!”
“I did not!” I pulled away from him and stood up. He chuckled at my reaction. “And if tying to kiss me in the middle of gym class is confessing your love toward me, than you’re crazy!”
He rolled his eyes and shoved his hands deep into his skinny jean pockets. He closed his eyes and tapped his foot on the ground. He looked like he hadn’t gotten much sleep in the past few days.
I sat back down and rested my head on his shoulder. The cool thing about the two of us being such great friends and for so long is that when it’s quiet like this, it doesn’t affect us.
“Sam, you have a visitor!” Sam’s mom called from upstairs as quiet footsteps came down. We both turned around and looked to see who it was.
It was a girl. She was really pretty! She had long dark brown hair and light brown eyes. Her tan skin contrasted with her white, short sleeved t-shirt and dark blue shorts. She stared at Sam with a smile plastered on her face, but soon it faded.
Sam grinned, looking her over. “Hey Lexi!” Sam stood up, making me fall over onto the couch. “What are you doing here?” He laughed as he walked over to her. This must be the girl he is so in love with.
“I just stopped by to say hi but I see you’re busy...” She glanced over at me and frowned. “I should probably go…” She mumbled and turned around.
Sam grabbed her arm to keep her from leaving. “Myra and I are just friends, don’t worry okay?” He pulled her closer, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
I stood up and walked over to them. “Hey, I’m Myra…” I smiled the best I could and waved to her. She looked up at Sam and a think shade of blush flooded her cheeks. She waved back, unable to say anything.
I walked toward the stairs, knowing they would want there alone time. So I walked up the stairs without saying anything. The second I reached the stairs I was greeted by the sweet smell of fresh pancakes and warm syrup.
Sam’s mom smiled at me and handed me a plate of pancakes. “So who’s the girl?” She grabbed her own plate and sat down next to me. “She’s really pretty, is that one of Sam’s new crushes?”
“Something like that…” I laughed and took a bite of my pancakes. They were warm and soft like always. I loved Sam’s mom so much, she was the best cook I’ve ever met. “These are really good…” I smiled at her and took another bite.
“Awe, thank you dear.” She took a bite of hers and smiled.
We sat there in silence until Sam and Lexi stomped up the stairs. They were already deep in a conversation. Lexi started giggling as they walked into the kitchen. They sat down next to us and continued on. “That’s really cool Lex!” Sam laughed and grabbed a pancake.
“Thank you Sammy…” She started to blush again.
I rolled my eyes and turned to Sam’s mom. “I’m going to go for a walk, I’ll see you later.” I smiled at her and got up, shoving my hands into my black sweatshirt pockets.
Sam and Lexi continued on with their conversation and neither of them noticed I had left the room. I was starting to become jealous of Lexi; she officially had Sam all to herself!
I was sad, I did love Sam and he was everything to me. But now he practically has a girlfriend, making his best friend, me, not part of the equation anymore. Whatever happened to bros before hoes?
Stupid Sam…
