Chapter 3
I looked down at my timetable and winced. I couldn't have that many lessons, for goodness' sake! I needed some free periods to actually chill. I sighed and reminded myself this was my last year before university, so I smiled. I knew I could take this year and pass with flying colors.
I laughed as Beth walked in front of me, pouting as she glanced at her timetable.
"Come on, Beth, it's not that bad. I swear, I have no life now," I groaned, just thinking about the triple English lessons I'd have in one day.
"Emma, I have double math every morning. Like, how?! I don't think my mind will be able to process anything in the morning—and I have it with Ms. Panziani! She clearly hates me and wants to make my life hell," Beth grumbled.
I laughed, remembering when Beth poured Coca-Cola all over Ms. Panziani in Year 11 while she was walking past. Beth claimed it was an accident, but I knew deep down she'd wanted her to be covered in it!
"Yeah, you're right. I have double Textiles and Art in the morning, then after break, triple English. Argh! After lunch, I've got double History, and then I'm finally off," I groaned, slamming my head against my locker.
I felt a hand on my back and knew instantly it was Beth, trying to comfort me.
"It's okay, Em. At least we have each other. By the way, did I tell you I love your jacket? Even though it's not my style..."
I smiled and gave her a hug. Beth was the only thing in my life that made me enjoy school. She'd been there for me since the day Clarissa made everyone abandon me.
Speaking of the devil, I met Clarissa's eyes as she walked into the hallway. She glared at me when I gave her a smile. Take that, you bitch!
The irrelevant people of the last term weren't a concern anymore—I didn't deal with people whose opinions didn't matter.
Of course, she had her two friends behind her, peering over her shoulder to give Beth and me a look up and down. I hated being a part of this cliché story: three girls against one. The thing was, I wasn't alone—I had Beth.
"So, Emma... Nice to see you haven't changed—still ugly as ever."
I laughed and turned my head away from her, clutching Beth's arm with one hand and holding my bag with the other. In the distance of the hallway, I heard Clarissa's voice carry:
"Emma, I'll see to it that you get no one. No one will ever like you."
That dumb idiot. I swear, if I wanted to kill myself, I'd climb her ego and jump off her IQ. (A/N: This is from a best comebacks book on Wattpad. I swear, it's the funniest thing ever!)
"Don't worry about her. You know she's an idiot. Besides, she just wants a reaction, and why would you stoop to her level?" Beth said calmly.
I smiled. Just as I was about to reply, the bell rang. Shit! I was going to be late for my Form Room. I hugged Beth and hurried off to find the room.
Looking down at my timetable, I saw the room number in bold: 2002. I jumped in glee when I realized it was right in front of me. I opened the door to see a bunch of people scattered across the classroom, chatting in small groups.
The conversations died as soon as I walked in. I sat down at the back and placed my bag on the floor, trying to ignore the stares. My heartbeat quickened as I heard their whispers. Grabbing my earphones, I put them in and started doodling on a scrap of paper to distract myself.
The door slammed shut. My head snapped up to see a tall man with dark brown hair. He stood with his back to the class, writing on the whiteboard. His sharp suit immediately caught my eye—this man had taste. I quickly looked back down at my paper, but I couldn't resist sneaking another glance.
