An apology

It was 7am on the morning of the 1st November 1981 and a man with a cheeky smile woke up startled. He turned and saw his wife lying next to him on the stone floor of the basement they had been thrown into a week before.

A man from the order had arrived at their hiding spot. They invited him in and bam, they woke up somewhere completely different. However it was not their safety they were concerned of but young Harry's. The one-year old had been left on his own... Or so they thought.

Dumbledore had known that Voldemort would not hesitate to kill the Potters and had so had them kidnapped - hiding them away to be safe as willing volunteers took their places.

The Potters had survived and the dark Lord had been vanquished and so the small family was able to continue their lives.

James was given a job as the defence against the dark arts professor and Lily was offered a position as assistant of the new potions master. The couple gladly accepted knowing that they had to shelter their son from his fame until he was old enough to understand.

It was Lily's first day and she was understandably nervous but as Harry was enjoying a day trip to Hogsmeade with "Unca Moo-y" and "Unca Pa-foo" there was nothing she could do but descend to the dungeon classroom.

When she reached the heavy door she was excited to see who the new professor was - Dumbledore had refused to inform them when the had arrived late the night before. And so she gathered all her Gryffindor courage and pressed her knuckles lightly against the wood a few times.

"Enter" boomed a voice she would recognise anywhere, her first and best friend.

Flinging open the door, she ran to him "Sssseeeeevvvvv", she cried as she launched herself into his arms.

"Lils? What are you doing here? Are you alright? Did that rotten Potter harm you?"

"Yes Sev its me, I'm great thanks and James has done nothing wrong I'm your new assistant!"

"Oh, Lils, this is going to be great! Making new potions, seeing how dumb the students are and even the marking will be better when your here!"

"Slow down Sev or your going to explode with excitement, come on its time for dinner!"

Saying James was unhappy was an understatement he was livid! That slime-ball a teacher! What did he do, teach students how to avoid showers?

But Lily was happy being reunited with her friend and Harry seemed comfortable with him being around. Maybe they could try and get along?

Wait...no! What was he thinking?!? He couldn't be nice to Snively! But he couldn't be mean to him either or Lily would murder him - after banishing him to the sofa for a month!

It was Christmas and the Potters had had a fantastic month with teaching and Harry causing havoc in the corridors. All the students loved him and he often enjoyed spending time with his "Unca Sevvy" and so James had gotten a present for his wife's friend.

"Dada, where we going?" Harry asked his father.

"To Severus" James replied.

"Yay, Unca Sevvy! Dada up!"

And so James carried his son until he reached Severus' chambers. Knocking gently he heard the potions master drawl, "come in".

"Good morning Severus"

"Potter. What are you doing here?"

"I have come to apologise for my behaviour as a child, it was abysmal and unforgivable but i hope from this day forward we can be friends, or at least be civil with each other for Lily and Harry."

"Is this some kind of a joke? Just another trick to humiliate me?"

"No, Lily has always loved you like a brother and Pronglet adores you, i believe potions is his favourite class to sit in when Albus, Siri and Rem are unable to look after him."

"Uhm o-kay, apology accepted, shall we go to lunch? I heard Albus got treacle tart!"

"Treacle tart! Thats my favourite, Harry loves it to. Don't you munchkin?"

"Yes Dada! Unca Sevvy?"

"Yes"

"Carry me"

And so James passed his son to his ex-mortal enemy and they proceeded to the feast.
