Chapter 20 - Charlie's Theory of YouTubivity

"B- But... Y-You died" stuttered Carrie. "Carrie, do you really think this is the right time to be discussing the reality of life? Especially to me?" Dan asked sassily. Carrie looked back down. "How many of you are there in here anyway?" asked Dan as he quickly untied the ropes of everyone in the room. "All of us. I'll explain later" said Carrie. She and Dan helped everyone else up off the floor and out of the door. "Dan... This place is heavily guarded. I can hear voices not 20 metres away! How did you get past them?" she questioned. "See the thing is, I have no idea" said Dan blankly. "They were all coming towards me, the guards, and then there was this bright light and a YouTube play button had just appeared on my chest. Right here" Dan said, pointing to his heart. "And then I jumped super high, took all of them out and knocked down a steel door. And I don't even feel tired!" Carrie paced, thinking. "Dan... you said they were coming towards you. Do you know what they were going to do to you?" asked Phil. "Well, they had their guns ready, so I'm assuming.. death" he replied. "That's it!" Carrie said. "You were in imminent danger of death, on the edge of annihilation. Whatever the play button was, you being about to die made it happen. We could probably quite easily escape from here if we knew how to do it again... We're technically in extreme danger now, I don't see why it wouldn't work..." She was interrupted by a voice. "If you'll excuse me" said a voice from the gathering of YouTubers. "I have a theory." Charlie McDonnell appeared from the crowd and walked up to them. "Dan Howell, how lovely to meet you finally" Charlie shook Dan's hand firmly and smiled. Dan stood frozen, then turned to Phil. "Phil... Charlie knows who I am... Actual Charlieissocoollike just shook my hand and recognised me.." Charlie began to speak. "Dan, you came here with the intention of saving everyone. But it must have been a really strong willpower. One bound by the mix of emotions such as friendship and love. Dan turned to Phil. "That would be correct, in a way." He said quietly. "Then maybe we all need that willpower. We have to make everybody focus on getting out of here so desperately that they nearly give up!" Carrie gave the instruction. "Dan, stand in front of all of us. You've done this already. Now that we're in a group, it might be easier to activate." Dan nodded and stood with his eyes closed. He imagined the comfort of the warehouse with Phil's arms wrapped around him, and how they would spend their valuable time together. The light grew on Dan's chest. "Everybody, touch Dan. Share his willpower with your own!" Dan heard this and had enough time to shout "NOT THE NECK!" before getting repeatedly hit. Suddenly they heard the loading of guns on either side of them. "TAKE AIM" shouted a voice. "QUICK! NOW! EVERYBODY THINK" Charlie said, and as the bullets fired, the light shone brightly and the YouTubers were gone. The bullets fired through the now empty space and hit the other guards on each end, and they all collapsed. Backup security was alerted, and the officials came running. They parted to let one particular man walk through. The man walked over the bleeding bodies, trying to shift them with his foot. "A pity" he said. "We were very close that time. Almost got them." He said dryly. "What do we do now, sir?" someone asked. "Go back to tracking them. They're more vulnerable than ever now." "Yes, of course" said a guard. "Yes what?" said the man. "Yes Mr Grimshaw." "That's better." The face of Nick Grimshaw looked up into the skylight. "I'm going to find you, Phil Lester. You and all your other YouTube freaks. Your time is up." And he swished away.
