AFTER: School started

"Will you take me to my class?" Ramona asks me as we enter the gates of hell.

I mean, school.

It's the start of her freshman year and the start of my senior year.

Despite already having agreed to taking her to class -since it was my responsibility- I joke to her like I always do, "Mona, you're like 15, you can take care of yourself,"

I continue to walk down the hall that is ever so familiar to me.

"but-" she stops herself when she realizes that I was still in pace with her and not planning on leaving her behind. I sense her rolling her eyes, she knew me too well. "You suck, Regan."

I glance at her, and wipe a fake tear off my cheek, "Look at you cursing at your big sister, you're growing up too fast!"

"Please don't start," she cringes.

"Start what, baby sister?" I smirk. I may have hated her since she was born, making her cry all the time and made her childhood hell, but growing up, I realized, I quite not hate her that much anymore. Except for the times I'm on my period, of course.

I knew her schedule already so I lead her to her designated room.

About three doors down, I halt. "Your room is at the third door to the left. It has a room number above the door, you can't miss it."

I see her pouting.

Mona is the total opposite of me; she's shy whereas I'm outgoing. She's pale and my complexion is more on the tan side. Despite those polar opposite differences, people say we look alike and could even be mistaken as twins.

I sigh, rolling my eyes at her as I take her wrist in my hand and pull her to her designated room.

"Study well," I tell her as she stares at the room before her, and I turn to head over my first class.

I check my watch to find that I still have about 25 minutes before my class starts and since I knew Reid's schedule, I head over to his class just for the heck of it.

I peek my head into the room as a few of my batch mates nod at me and even give me a hug.

"How are you doing, Ree?"

"Wow you lost weight,"

"I love what you did to your hair!"

"Nah, still looks the same to me, you're still a shorty,"

The commotion gave me no opportunity to search the room for Reid and I frown until someone calls me from behind.

"Ree,"

I turn my attention to the voice from behind me and I couldn't help but let out a small squeal as I launch myself in the arms of Reid.

"I missed you," I breathe. I could feel his heart beating fast, like it always does when I hug him.

His arms around me tighten, "Ditto, princess,"

I smile up at him. I was a petite standing next to him, only reaching his shoulders but I didn't mind; it was perfect.

Okay, I was a petite standing next to many but I was still average in height.

As we let go of each other, I feel a sudden breeze of cold air.

"Let me take you to your room, yeah?" He smiles that smile that made my heart rip my rib cage apart.

I nod as we head down the hallway.

Reid resembled my sister; he, too, was shy. You could even mistake him for a snob if you don't know him well, but contrary to the belief, he is the total opposite. Reid is goofy and cheesy and he talked a lot for someone everyone categorized as 'quiet'. He's just really shy around people he doesn't know.

"I don't know if you noticed, but I got taller," I boast proudly.

"Don't lie to yourself, Ree," He says smugly.

"I hate you," I glare at him.

"I love you too," he smirks.

I stick my tongue out at him because I'm just that mature.

"Well aren't you quite a naughty girl," he smirks and I respond by slapping his arm playfully.

"Reid!"

He laughs and I can't help but join him. It was rare for him to smile or laugh, which is why I do my best to cherish every moment he does.

Before I even notice, we reach the door of my class and for some reason, my heart drops. Suddenly, I feel nervous.

Reid's arm slides behind my back as he places a kiss on my forehead, "I'll see you later,"

It calms me for a moment before his hand finds its way to my ass to give it a light squeeze and I blush.

Did I mention Reid was a touchy boyfriend?

Well, despite being the shy guy that he is, Reid shamelessly shows his affection to me, which I think is really cute.

"Reid!" I slap his arm again, rolling my eyes at him.

"Don't make me miss you too much again," he tells me before giving me another hug.

He opens the door for me and lets me in before closing it again and heading back to his own class.

Instantly, I was met with the arms of Lydia suffocating me in a hug.

I met Lydia back in 7th grade and we've been inseparable since. She stood a half foot taller than me and she was a curvy lady.

She lets go of me and leads me to a seat in the back of the room next to hers.

"Can you believe it, Ree? We're graduating!" She says.

"Well, not yet, 'cause you know... We still have to survive senior year and-"

"Oh shush, you think too much," she scolds me.

I shrug, taking a glance around the room.

I knew all of the people in my class. Our school is small, which is why -ideally- everyone knew everyone.

And there, I found him.

Finn.

He was laughing with a group of friends and I can honestly say that he has not changed a bit. He was still pale, but not as much as when we were in middle school. His hair was styled the way it always was; the front fringe waxed to a quiff. He ditched the emo look in 8th grade. His eyes were squinted and his neck arched back as he laughed along to what his friends said.

As I take him in, my eyes trail down to his hands that were dangling at the side of his chair.

Suddenly, that nervous feeling found its way back into my system and I find myself clenching my fists together as if to stop myself from wanting to hold his hands.

Because despite being the hands that held so much memories and comfort, they were the same hands that broke my heart not long ago.

I felt nostalgic, as if all the efforts of getting over him was useless. As if all the anger that had built up inside me was replaced with loneliness.

I fought with my thoughts, this isn't right.

"How about you?" Lydia's voice snaps me out of my trance.

"Yea, yea, I mean, what?" I stutter.

"I said, I'm hungry, how about you?" She repeats.

"Uhm, not much yet, I mean it is just the first class, Lyd," I chuckle.

"Ugh," she groans, "this is gonna be a long first period,"

I laugh at her.

This is gonna be a long school year.
