Chapter 6 Tonks
Later that day I get called in for work. "What is it this time?" I ask Moody. "A muggle got his hands on a Crup." He replies. "Ugh. Not again. When are you going to let me do something real?! Aurors are supposed to be dark wizard catchers. Not stray dog catchers." I roll my eyes at Moody. Really though. I want to do something real.
I stalk the muggle while he walks his "Jack Russell". The dog is pretty aggressive towards him, and the other pedestrians. "Excuse me sir." I say to the man.
He is short with greying hair and a mustache. He could use some exercise to get rid of his pot-belly. "Eh?" He grunts as he turns around. "That dog you've got there, that's the dog my sister lost. Can I have him back?" "What!? Who do you think you are? Goin' up to people and asking for their dogs..." He turns around and walks away without another word.
Well, guess its time for plan B.
I follow the man for blocks, always staying out of sight. After a half hour he walks into a small house. I change my hair color from light brown to red, jog up to the door, and knock. "Go away!" He shouts. Knock! Knock! Knock! He opens the door.
"And who're you?" He asks turning red. I can tell he's angry. "I'm Lucy Applewood." I say. "I'm looking for my lost dog. My sister, Anne, is asking around town. I'm going door to door. Have you seen or found a Jack Russell Terrier by any chance? Might be a little aggressive towards strangers."
"No. Can't say I have." He says stubbornly. "I'm offering a fifty pound reward." I bribe. "Oh, a Russell? Found one two days ago."
He walks into his house. I peek through the open door and see a mess. Usually I don't mind messes, I love them. Keeps things real. But this? It's not just a mess, it's a filthy mess. Dirty plates and clothes all over the furniture, and food littering every corner.
He walks back holing the dog at arms length. "This 'im?" He asks "Yes it is." I nod. I take him from the man. "Thank you for taking care of him." I say. "You said there was a reward?" He asks greedily. "Oh yes. Let me write own your address and i'll put it in the post as soon as I can."
He scuttles back into the house and returns with a fountain pen and paper. Ignoring the paper I take the pen and write his address on my hand and give it back. "Good day sir, and thank you again." He shuts his door.

Back at the ministry, the Crup is put in magical creature care with the other animals we've caught. He seems unharmed. I change my hair to bright green.
"Anything else for me while I'm here?" I ask Moody. "You're free to go Nymphardora." "Mad-Eye!" I say angrily. "Get over it Tonks." I glare at him. Then I turn on my heel and storm out the office. I use floo powder to get back to my house. Mum is waiting for me in the kitchen when I get back.
"Anything fun this time Dora?" She asks. "Just a Crup." I reply with a sigh. She looks at my disappointed expression and sits down next to me. "You'll get an exciting assignment sooner or later." She says. "And I thing more likely sooner." "Thanks mum, but you always say that. When will it actually happen?!" "I don't know dear, but it'll happen."
If it takes much longer for me to get a real assignment, I might just look for one myself.
