"Are you mad at me?" I asked Brayden. He hadn't spoken to me since we crossed the creek.
"No," he said laying his blanket out. "Why would you think that?"
"I don't know. You just kind of stopped talking."
"Sorry, I was just kind of thinking. Enjoying the scenery." He shrugged.
"Alright," I nodded. I set my blanket on the other side of the wood we stacked for a fire. I laid out my pillows and bag. Got my little snacks under my pillows and went to the saddles that we had set on a nearby log. The horses were tied near the creek without their saddles and bits. Just piles of food in the sweet grass and the creek to drink from.
In my saddle bag I had our dinner. Three cans of ravioli. Two for Brayden and one for me. I turned around with the three cans and two forks and walked right into Brayden..... again.
"You have got to stop standing where I'm going!" I shouted. He chuckled before stealing a can of ravioli and a fork from my hands.
"Sorry?" He laughed opening his food and sitting in my blanket with his water.
"Why are you on my blanket?" I asked.
"In case I spill it," he shrugged as he started eating.
"So you'll spill it on my blanket," I asked. He nodded before laughing.
"I'm only kidding princess," he laughed.
"Princess?"
"Well you got all girly over your blanket. Princesses are all pampered, pretty, and girly," he shrugged.
"I did not get girly. I was concerned for the place I plan to sleep." I stated trying to ignore the fact he possibly meant I was pretty.
"I actually sat here to eat with you, princess Daisy," he laughed. I rolled my eyes and sat down with him.
"That's not my new nickname," I said glaring at him. He looked up at the sky for a moment as if contemplating something difficult.
"Yes it is... princess." He said in a low whisper before he laughed.
"I should just leave you up here," I rolled my eyes and he looked at me with a fake sad face.
"Please princess Daisy. Show mercy to a poor poor Brayden," he threw his hands together and leaned over me to steal another can of ravioli. I took it from his hands and shook my head.
"I don't think I will," I said with my arms crossed and a sour look on my face, refusing to look at him. "In fact no more food for Brayden."
"What?" He asked with a big frown. "No please don't starve me... you of all people should know what it means to love food with how much you eat."
"Are you calling your princess fat?" I said looking at him. He smiled.
"Well when you say you're my princess I like the sound of it," he said leaning closer to me. "Might just keep it. My princess Daisy."
He moved closer and put an arm on each side of me. He was now leaning over me.
"What do you think? My princess. I like it. You can be my little queen," he said. His face was inches away from mine and the sun was reflecting off of his lip ring. I couldn't speak. He leaned closer and kissed my forehead before stealing the can of ravioli and sitting back down.
"Cheater," I laughed. He nodded.
"Sorry princess," he said before taking a bite of his ravioli. I smiled and he finished that can too. He looked like he was still hungry and I passed him my can. I had snacks. He looked at the can then at me.
"What will the royalty eat then?" He asked eyeing the can.
"I brought snacks," I shrugged. He looked at me then the can. "Well, go ahead."
"Thanks," he said with a big smile before opening the can and starting to eat. He finished that can and yawned. He reminded me of a young child.
"Get enough to eat?" I smiled. He nodded and grabbed me in a hug before leaning back and taking me with him. I was partially laying on him and his arms were around me. I looked up at him, his eyes were closed and he was half smiling. I tried to stand up but he held me close to him.
"Can I get up? We still have to start the fire," I said.
"I don't know, I think we'll stay pretty warm this way," he said smiling and pulling me closer.
"We need a fire to scare off the animals," I said trying again to get up.
"Growl at them," he laughed. "You're scary enough."
"If I'm so scary why won't you let me up?" He laughed.
"I guess I'm just brave," he said still laughing. I rolled my eyes and he finally let me up. He didn't usually act this way. I got up and started the small fire before sitting down beside him. He was still laying back. He stared up at the sky. The sun was setting and most of the sky was a pinkish blue color. I laid down beside him. I could see a few stars and felt him put his arm around me.
He didn't usually act this way and part of me questioned it, but another part liked it. I liked it too much. I shouldn't like it. I sat up and he looked confused. I scooted closer to the fire as unexpected cold chills ran across my arms. Brayden sat up too.
"Is it just me or is it getting cold?" He asked.
Oh perfect, I thought it's too dark to head back and getting cold. Perfect excuse to cuddle with Brayden. Not gonna lie, sounds amazing, but when I checked the weather it was supposed to be warm. It's gonna look like I planned this.
"It was supposed to be warm," I sighed.
"I know I checked," he said.
Yes! Now I won't look like a creep!
He pulled me closer, almost onto his lap. I looked up at him and he just smiled at me.
"You know," he said looking at the fire, he moved me to have my back against his chest and his legs on either side of me, resting his hands on my hips, causing butterflies and chills. "I liked sleeping beside you. Wouldn't mind it again tonight if you don't mind."
I couldn't come up with any words. It's like my entire intelligence ran away as he spoke. I just nodded without thinking and he pulled me closer to him and laid down, he carried me with him like a teddy bear. I let him move me to where he was happy. He let me use him as a pillow and he still held me like a teddy bear.
"Best teddy bear ever." He said smiling. I rolled my eyes. Suddenly feeling more tired than I thought. Did I forget my brain? Brayden has been acting weird. I have been letting him. Why did I let him hold me? Why did I let him pull a blanket up over us and hold me against his chest? Why did I never want him to let go?
I snuggled up against his chest, enjoying the moment I had like this. He trailed his fingertips up and down my arm which gave me cold chills, but I loved it anyway. I was starting to fall asleep. I looked up at him. He simply smiled.
"Good night Brayden," I said trying not to yawn. He nodded.
"Good night princess," he laughed. I closed my eyes. Just before I fell asleep I thought I felt him kiss the top of my head.
