Chapter 6
~
"Look what we have here, boys," one of them snickered.
"I think this pretty girl is lost," the other sneered, daring a step forward.
I lashed the knife out at him, missing his stomach by a mere inch, "You thought wrong," I growled.
The other men laughed, as the one I barely missed, jumped back and barred his teeth at me.
"Watch yourself, Bren, it seems we got ourselves a dangerous one," one of the men said, chuckling.
"You got yourselves nothing," I spat, and had no time to whirl around, when one of the men pounced on me.
Involuntarily I shrieked, as he shoved me to the hard forest floor. The air rushed out of me, as my attacker sneered down at me and was about to take the knife out of my hand when, with a grunt, he collapsed on top of me.
Shrieking again, I shoved at him and finally got him off. I sat up, dazed, and looked at the commotion in front of me. The men were hitting the ground one by one, as somebody kept knocking them down. I was about to stand up and help whoever came to rescue me, when a hand tightened around my hair, pulling me down.
Wincing, I threw my hand behind me head and slashed the knife at the hand grabbing my hair. The attacker instantly released it with a roar. I whirled around and jumped on him and straddled him, pressing my knees into his hands, which were by his side. Now that I was this close to him, I could see his face. He was a scrawny man, around twenty seven, maybe less, with sunken eyes and greasy hair.
He roared in agony, as I pressed my knee deeper into his right injured, and pressed the knife against his throat.
"Who are you?" I growled.
"Like hell I'm- Argh!"
I pressed my knee stronger into his injured arm, at the same time puncturing his throat with the knife.
"I won't ask again."
The man whimpered and was about to say something, when two strong hands pulled me off of him.
"Relax, its me," a deep, husky voice murmured in my ear.
I wriggled free and stepped back, looking at the boy who saved Xander in the market, and now perhaps Meera.
"You?" I asked, bewildered.
He looked at me a second longer before grabbing the man by his collar and shoved him on his feet.
"Who sent you?" The boy growled.
The man only whimpered, pressing on his injured hand. The boy shoved the man against a tree and grabbed his injured arm, squeezing. The man roared in pain.
"Who. Sent. You?"
"Asher! Please... please, just let me go!"
"For what?"
