Chapter 7
A loud knock on my door awoke me with a start. I sat up in my bed, dazed. Glancing outside the window, I noticed that it was still pitch black. Who in the seven hells would want me this early? I thought to myself, as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes.
The knock sounded again, urgent this time.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" I hissed, swinging my legs off my bed, instantly wincing, as my bare feet made contact with the cold floor. Quickly lighting a candle by my bedside table, I padded over to my door and grabbed the knob.
I twisted it open and came face to face with the person on the other side. Gasping, I slammed it shut but not quickly enough. Asher shoved the door open, slamming it against the wall, causing me to yelp and jump back.
"Well, well, well," he said slowly, as he closed the door after him, locking it. "If it isn't the one and only Mar Woods."
I squeezed my trembling hands in fists, as I stared at Asher, back walking to my bed.
"H-how do you know my name?" I stuttered, trembling.
He chuckled, dryly. "You're afraid of me, little sundress girl," he whispered, advancing at me like a predator to its prey. "That's good."
I kept moving back when suddenly, my legs made contact with the edge of my bed, and I gasped. I didn't have anywhere to go. I darted my eyes across my room, looking for any sort of weapon. Remembering that I had a knife underneath my pillow, I took a deep breath and dropped on my bed behind me.
"W-what do you want from me?" I said, raising my one hand in the air as I crawled on my backside towards my pillow.
Asher smirked, walking towards me, "Do you know who I am, Mar?"
I kept silent, as I sat on my pillow and carefully slid my hand under it. I said a silent thank you to the seven Gods, as my hand came in contact with the hilt of the knife.
Asher's light blue eyes burned into mine, as he smirked, coming to stand next to my bed, and looked down into my eyes. I pressed myself closer to the cold wall, as he leaned in towards me, one hand resting on the wall next to my right shoulder, the other resting on my bare thigh.
"I am Asher Black," he whispered next to my ear, "the leader of the Crows."
"Not anymore," I said, as I lunged the knife into his side, piercing his skin.
He chocked, looking down at the knife sticking out of his stomach. He lifted his head back to me, as blood poured out of his mouth. Gurgling, he collapsed on top of me, his blood staining my legs and hands. His eyes rolled back in his head, as he took one last intake of breath and went limp.
Screaming, I bolted upright in my bed, the sheets tangled around my burning body. Maniacally, I looked around my room, eyes darting everywhere. No Asher, no blood, no knife. I buried my hands in my lap, trying to steady my thundering heart.
