By quarter 'till nine Andrew, Kayla, Alison, and I have set up a keg on the beach and are waiting for others to arrive.
"You think people will actually come?" I wonder aloud.
"Where there's boos, there's our friends," Andrew responds.
By nine-thirty the beach is crowded. It's mostly people from my school, faces I've seen in the hallway, but I only know about half of their names.
"Indi, you're leaving me," a clearly drunk Bailey Goldsworth approaches me.
"I am," I say awkwardly. We had gone to school together since I could remember, but never had been that close.
"If you find some hot eligible bachelors you have to give them my number," she laughs, despite being off the market. She puts her hand to her forehead. It's clear she's having trouble standing up straight.
She begins to tip over and I barely catch her in time. I hold her awkwardly and look around for help. I finally make eye contact with her boyfriend, Jeremy Clawson who was standing at a table pouring two more cups of beer. As soon as he sees me with Bailey he comes right over to my rescue.
"I've got her from here," he says as he picks her up bridal style. He seems pretty sober.
"Okay," I breath out, relieved.
"Great party," he says and carries her towards the parking lot.
I begin to chug down the beers myself and before I know it I've lost track of how many I've downed.
Someone was playing music from and everyone was dancing a few feet from the water.
I decide to join in and stumble down to the large group of people. Ron Pope's Lick My Wounds is playing. Another one of my favorite songs. (Okay, I admit it, I have a lot of favorite songs.)
A curly haired redhead strikes my attention. He's dancing beside a group of other guys, but he looked lonely.
He smiled at me as I approached him. I walked right into him and he caught my shoulders to prevent me from falling. I giggled and mumbled into his ear, "My name's Indigo. They call me Indi."
He chuckled. "Nice to meet you Indi. I'm Samuel."
He continued to dance, I joining in awkwardly. I had always been an awful dancer so I decided to just jump up and down to the beat of the song.
It was a workout and I began to sweat terribly, but I didn't care. I was drunk and out of my right mind.
There were a few songs that I didn't know but then a vaguely familiar one came on.
My girlfriends bitching 'cause I always sleep in.
She's always screaming when she's calling her friends.
She's kinda hot, though."This is my d-dad's song," I stuttered.
"It's an old one," Samuel said. "You and your dad like 5 Seconds of Summer? My friend from Melbourne's dad was their drummer."
"No, this is my dad's song," was all I could manage to say.
"Okay," he laughed and continued to dance.
"My dad's song," I whispered.
"Is your dad dead or something?" he asked confused.
"No, but this is his song," I repeated just as it ended.
A new song started and I immediately recognized it as Foster the People's Pumped Up Kicks.
"Forget about it," I told Samuel and began to grind against him. Lord only knew if I was doing it right. I wasn't usually the type to grind against random guys.
