"How'd your dad react?"
"He didn't even care," I answer into the phone.
"Really? He didn't threaten Brooklyn?" Kayla asks surprised
"Nope. He said that he was happy for us and just not to have sex. Which, may I say, will be difficult."
"You're a virgin, how could it be difficult?" Kayla questions.
"I've already seen him naked. He wanted me to give him head, and trust me I would've had his dad not interrupted," I whisper. It's just Heidi and I today, but I didn't exactly want to scream it out. I was sitting in the back room, sorting records, but still.
"What?!" Kayla screams through the phone. Quieter I hear her say to someone, "Indi almost gave her boyfriend head!"
"Kayla!" I grumble.
"It's just me," I hear Alison speak into the phone.
"And me," I hear Andrew in the background.
"Is that all of the me's?" I ask, not too upset that all of my best friends knew.
"Yeah," Andrew answers.
"You've been dating for how long?" Alison asks. I assume that I'm on speaker.
"Like three weeks," I respond.
"Seriously? I wish Abby would've been that quick," Andrew speaks.
"It didn't happen, luckily, but I don't know how to prevent it from actually happening," I explain.
"Just give do sometime. If it does happen, it happens. Just make sure that nobody is home next time," Kayla suggests.
"Will do," I reply.
"And wait to actually have sex," Andrew advices.
"And use protection!" Alison laughs.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I better let you guys go. I'll try my very best to resist the urge to have sex with Brooklyn," I say.
"Bye," Kayla says.
"Miss you," they all say at once.
"Miss you guys, too. Bye," I say and hang up.
I close down my phone and look up to see Heidi standing in the doorway staring at me
"I'm sorry for being on my phone. I won't let it happen again," I apologize and blush, hoping she hadn't heard all that I had just said. "I was talking to my friends back home."
"Having trouble with your relationship?" she asks, ignoring my previous statement.
"Not really," I lie.
"He wants to have sex, but you don't," she goes on. "I've been there."
"You have?"
"Yeah, I may be old, but they had sex in my day, too," she laughed quietly to herself.
"So, what did you do about it?"
"I started off by telling him that if he liked me for me, that he'd have to wait until I was ready and it was the right moment."
She stopped and I asked her to continue by asking, "And he reacted how?"
"He waited until I was ready, just like he promised."
"Do you mind if I ask when you were ready?"
"A few months later," she replied honestly.
"Oh."
"It feels like a long time, and I'm sure it did for him, but it was worth it. He ended up becoming my husband."
"I didn't know that you were married. Why isn't he ever around?" She hadn't mention a husband once.
"Were married, past tense. He thought that I loved the music more than him. He was right about that."
"I'm sorry to bring up your past."
"Indi, it's fine. It doesn't bother me. I just really hope that it works out for you and Brooklyn. I ship you two," she chirps happily.
"Well, thank you, it means a lot," I laugh.
"Can I ask one more question," I say.
"Yeah, what is it?" Heidi responds.
"What happens if I said that I wanted us to wait and then I suddenly don't want us to wait? What if I actually am ready, but I told him I'm not?"
"You'll know when you're ready. You'll have no doubts. The fact that you're hesitant about your decision shows that you're not quite ready. Plus, if you changed your mind, I'm sure he'd be happy for an early admission," then she adds with a grunt, "Men."
"Thank you, Heidi," I say as I stand up to give her a hug.
"Anytime. I like having you around," she hugs me back.

At home that night it's just Brooklyn and I. The boys are at the recording studio. They keep saying they've almost got the album completed.
Brooklyn and I are cuddling on the couch watching Nicholas Sparks movies. We're on our third one, The Last Song. Brooklyn was reluctant to watch them, but after we watched The Notebook and he was done bawling he wanted to watch another one.
I laid my head in his lap and he rubbed my back. Though, I had trouble focusing on Ronnie and Will's relationship on the television. Every part of my back that Brooklyn's fingers traced I felt goosebumps, but it felt so good.
"What if I don't want to wait anymore?" I asked, drawing his attention from the movie to me.
"What?" he said.
"What if I changed my mind and wanted to have sex now?"
His fingers left my back and went to rest on my lower thighs. "Well, I wouldn't complain," Brooklyn laughed. "But I don't want you to rush into anything. We've been dating for just three weeks. They've been three magical weeks, but I don't want you to regret how fast things go."
I stood up from the couch.
"Where are you going?" he asked, panic in his voice.
"Absolutely nowhere," I said as I sat on the couch once more, but this time straddling his waist.
"Let's not move too fast," he suggested as he put his hands on my waist and kissed my lips.
Our lips stayed connected until we stopped to catch our breath and leaned our foreheads against one another's.
"Sounds like a plan," I said, breathlessly. "But you wouldn't complain if I gave you a blow job, would you?"
"Not at all, but not today. We should wait and leave it for the right moment." He kissed my lips again. "It'll be something to look forward to."
We kissed until the sound from the television stopped, signaling that the movie was over. I was glad he wasn't paying attention to the end of it, because he would have for sure cried again, ruining the mood.
We shut off the lights and went upstairs. I was surprised that the boys weren't home, it was past midnight, but I didn't think much of it.
I fell asleep in Brooklyn's arms, once more in the simple familiarity of his dark bedroom.
