About a week later Brooklyn and I were driving from business to business picking up applications.

We both thought we wanted to be waiters but, surprisingly were having trouble finding restaurants hiring.

Brooklyn and I had been spending time together constantly. Wether it be eating or going to the gym, we were together.

"What about this place?" Brooklyn spoke from the driver's seat of the car as we drove around town.

I looked to where he was pointing. Monument Music and Records.

"Yeah, let's go check it out," I nodded my head. I doubted they'd be hiring, let alone hiring two.

We parked and walked into the rustic looking white-bricked building.

The walls were covered from floor to ceiling in shelves of records and CD's. There were seven isles of shelving crammed into the small store. The wooden floors creaked as we took steps across it. The register in the middle of the store sat empty.

"Hello!" a short blonde lady who looked my dad's age greeted. She had a cart full of CD's beside her that she appeared to be placing on the shelves.

"Hi," Brooklyn waved.

"Hello," I smiled and waved.

"How may I help you two today?" she asked as she pushed the cart of CD's behind the register.

"We were actually curious as to whether or not you were hiring," I said politely.

"There was no sign in the window, but we'd thought we'd give it a shot," Brooklyn added.

"Do you have any experience in retail?" she asked.

"I got the most sales for all of my school fundraisers back home," Brooklyn smiled, clearly proud.

"And where's back home?"

"Australia actually," Brooklyn answered.

"Really? I moved here from New Zealand a few years ago," the girl told us.

"I'm from Melbourne and Indi here is from Sydney," said Brooklyn.

"I'm from Greymouth and I'm Hadley, by the way."

"I'm Brooklyn," he said extending his hand formally.

"I'm Indigo, but everyone calls me Indi," I said after she shook Brooklyn's hand and then I shook her hand.

"Do you guy's have good music taste?" Hadley asked.

"We both listen to some early day music, but Indi also likes pop," Brooklyn spoke for me.

"I adore Taylor Swift and Harry Styles," I said.

"They're so cute together," Hadley nodded in agreement.

"I listen to a lot of Green Day, Nirvana, Panic! At the Disco, Blink-182, and of course The Beatles, David Bowie. All stuff my father loves. Both our dad's really influenced our musical taste," Brooklyn listed off.

"But I also love Halsey, Alessia Cara, Selena Gomez, Lana Del Ray, The Weeknd, Zayn. Cliche, I know, but I'm more lyric driven," I explained.

"I like it all. The variety is a good thing," Hadley commented. "I wasn't really looking to hire two, but you both sound great and I love that you're from the land down under. I'll let you both come in on Monday for an official interview. Can I write down your names and numbers?"

"Definitely."

"So, are you two brother and sister?" Hadley asked.

"No, our dad's are best friends."

"Are you two dating?" Hadley asked.

Brooklyn and I both turned and looked each other in the eyes and I could feel my face getting warm.

"No, we're not dating," Brooklyn answered.

"Okay," Hadley said grabbing a pen and paper from the register area. She hunched over and began scribbling on a sheet of paper.

"So, Brooklyn..." she wrote and spoke.

"Irwin. 998-245-789."

"And Indi..."

"Hemmings. Brooklyn and I are staying together with our dad's, so if you just want to phone him-"

Hadley cut me off, "Hemmings and Irwin. Like Luke Hemmings and Ashton Irwin? Of 5 Seconds of Summer?"

"Those are our dad's," I laughed.

"No fucking way," Hadley stated rather calmly. "They're iconic. I love their work."

"We do, too," I replied.

"They're back here in L.A?" Hadley said.

"Sure are, recording now and everything," Brooklyn told her.

"That's so great. I hope they release some of their new stuff soon. It's been what? Eighteen years?"

"Sounds about right," I said looking down at my feet. My conception was the reason for that one.

I felt a hand wrap around my waist and looked up to see Brooklyn pulling me into him. "Well, Hadley, we're both very excited to get a formal interview of Monday," Brooklyn said. "Thank you so much. We'll be here at what time?"

"Nine a.m," Hadley said sticking the paper onto the computer keyboard.

Starting towards the door with his arm still around me, Brooklyn began to walk. "See you then."

Once to the car Brooklyn, still holding me, but with his hand now on my hip, walked me to the front hood of the car.

He picked me up by the waist and lifted me to the hood. "Are you okay?" His hands rested on my hips.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I lied.

He gave me a questioning look, eyebrows furrowing.

"I just really hate that my mom made my dad give it all up then abandoned us. She could have given him the baby and the band," I said looking back down at the ground.

He placed one of his hands beneath my chin and tilted my face back up. "It all worked out," Brooklyn said softly.

Then he stepped in between my legs and leaned in. His face neared mine and I closed my eyes.

I felt his lips connect with mine. They had always looked rough, but felt soft against mine now.

His hand went down from my chin onto my neck, gently resting it underneath my hair.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and twirled the curls of hair at the bottom of his hair line.

Our lips continued to move against each other until his tongue brushed against my lips, asking for access inside of my mouth. I opened my mouth and we deepened the kiss. A few seconds later we both came up for a quick breath, but then resumed our positions.

This went on for a few more minutes until I put my hand on his chest and leaned my forehead against his.

He whispered, "I've wanted to do that for awhile now."

"Me, too," I said, still regaining my breath.

I slide off the car and we both got inside of the car. He started the car and his hand immediately found my thigh.

At home we ate dinner with the guys and told them about our potential job with a fan who thought they were iconic.
