I heard shouting from outside.
I got out of bed groggily, and looked out my window. There was no one to be seen. Then who was shouting?
I listened closely to what was being said. It sounded like... a spell. And a very long one at that.
And then I heard the sounds of multiple creatures awakening. What was going on?
I ran out of the castle to see what was happening.
It was a mistake.
Because right in front of me, there was some sort of gargoyle creature coming towards me.
Then, it pounced, its claws digging into my forehead. I cried out in pain.
"Ic pé wipdrífe!" I shouted, which made the creature fly through the air.
I turned around, and two more gargoyles were stalking towards me. They were surrounding me in all sides.
That's when I screamed.
I screamed as loud as I could, hoping someone would hear me.
"Beatrice!" Merlin shouted from behind me.
"Merlin!" I sobbed
He ran in front of me and non-verbally pushed all the gargoyles back.
I hugged Merlin "Oh goodness, what's going on?"
He looked into my eyes "It's Cedric. I knew he was up to something. Get inside, I'll fend them off."
I wiped the tears from my face frantically "No. I'm going to fight with you."
"No, you can't! It's not safe! Please, go!"
"No! I want to help!"
"If you really want to help, you can go help Gwen and Gaius in the infirmary!"
Gwen. I shuddered at her name.
"No! I don't want you to get hurt again!"
Merlin's face softened, and he paused for a while "You're right." He said softly after a while "I'm sorry. You can stay."
I smiled "Thank you."
The Knights tried fighting them with their swords, and Merlin and I tried fighting them with our magic, but they never got hurt.
"What's happening?" I shouted "Why aren't they going down?"
"I don't know... I'll be right back!" Merlin started running off.
"Wait! Where're you going?"
"To talk to Gaius!" He called back.
A gargoyle ran toward me, and I pushed it back, but it just got back up.
Why won't they just die?
I looked around, and saw Arthur coming towards me "Beatrice! What're you doing out here? Get inside now!"
"No! I'm going to fight! I already told Merlin!"
"There's no persuading you, is there?"
I shook my head stubbornly.
Arthur sighed "Fine. But you'll need this."
He gave me a sword.
I gave him a look "Why did you have two swords?"
He shrugged "This one might or might not have been for Merlin, but either way you can use it."
I nodded and started swinging at the gargoyles with my sword. It was no use. They kept coming."
After twenty minutes of pointless effort, Merlin came running back.
"Where have you been?" I shouted
"Sorry. But I think I know how to stop this."
"Well, then, what are you waiting for? Hurry!"
He looked around to make sure no one was looking, then looked at one of the gargoyles and said "Astríce!"
The gargoyle blew into bits.
I gaped "How did you do that?"
"Gaius and I had a lot to discuss."
"Well, do it again!"
Merlin shook his head "No. I have to face the source of the problem. I have to face Cedric."
"Okay. What do I do?"
"Just... hold the creatures off!" And he ran off.
"Beatrice!" Arthur called "Over here!"
I ran in Arthur's direction, and we stood back to back, like we did when we practiced sword fighting (I told him I wished to lean how to use a sword the day after I had that dream about Gwen, and he happily obliged).
"We have to keep them away from the castle!" Arthur shouted to me.
"Got it!"
I would hit the gargoyles with my sword, but I would whisper the same spell Merlin cast under my breath, and they would disintegrate.
"Arthur!" I cried "I don't know how long I can keep this up!"
"Come on, Beatrice! Just a little bit longer!"
I stopped with the spell and just hit the creatures. I just wanted it to end.
And then, with a loud moan, all the gargoyles exploded. Soon, there were none left.
I sighed in relief.
Arthur laughed in shock "Woah. What just happened?"
The sword dropped from my hand. My arms were sore, I was drenched in sweat, and I had a big gash on my forehead, covering my face in blood.
What had happened?
But I managed to smile and say "We did it!"
Arthur laughed and pulled me into a hug.
He pulled back from the hug and gasped "Oh, you're hurt. Let's take you to Gaius."
Arthur carried me to the infirmary, for my knees had given out, and set me on a bed. Gaius examined me.
"It needs stitching." He said "Gwen! Get me some water!"
"On it!" She called from somewhere in the room.
Gwen.
I remembered what Kilgarrah said. That I should be weary of Guenivere.
Then, she stood right next to Gaius, and gave him the water.
She looked exactly as she did in my dream. It was my first time seeing Gwen's face, and I knew her immediately.
There was also someone standing next to Gwen, who I immediately recognized as the Lady Morgana.
I remembered what I said about her in my dream. How I said she was a tyrant. But she looked anything but a tyrant. She was sweet, kind, caring; how could she ever be evil?
But I knew my dreams weren't wrong.
Then, Gaius started stitching my forehead, and I passed out.
