A few weeks after talking to Tanith, I decided to start practicing with Merlin again. The first few days, it was just like good old times, him reciting a spell, me catching on quickly. It was a lot of fun, and it gave me a chance to bond with Merlin more.

But one day, Merlin seemed a little distracted. And very stressed out. There were dark lines underneath his eyes and his hair was a mess; signs that he wasn't getting much sleep. Every time he would say a spell, he would pronounce it wrong and end up making a pot explode instead.

Finally, I decided to ask.

"Merlin, are you feeling okay?"

"Yes, I'm fine, thank you." He said unconvincingly, rubbing his eyes.

"Merlin, please don't try to hide stuff from me."

Merlin sighed, and after a moment of silence, finally spoke "I made a terrible, terrible mistake."

"What do you mean?"

"I made a promise that I knew I shouldn't have, but at the time I was desperate. But now, it's all coming back to bite me."

"What was the promise?"

"I-I can't say."

"Well, I just hope you know that you can always come and talk to me."

"Of course I do. Thank you, Beatrice."

"And Merlin?"

He turned to look at me.

"Just know that... you can always trust me. I'm your friend. I will never ever betray you."

"I've always known that. Why are you telling me?"

I wanted to tell him about my dreams of Gwen trying to kill me, of my mother's warning about Morgana, about Kilgarrah destroying Camelot, but I knew he wouldn't believe me.

"I dunno. Just always remember that."

"Alright. Beatrice, is it okay if we wait until tomorrow to practice? In case you couldn't tell, I'm not in the best shape to be casting spells."

"Yeah, sure." I said "See you tomorrow, then."

I walked out the door, but before I shut it, I watched as Merlin sat down and put his head in his hands.

"Why, Dragon?" He sighed to himself "Why must you-" his voice broke.

I walked away before he could notice my presence.

So this promise had to do with Kilgarrah. Could this promise be linked with the dream I had of the dragon?

I hoped against hope that I was wrong.

As soon as I entered my chambers, I decided to take a nap. It was a stressful day, and I had a lot of things on my mind that I decided I needed to sleep on.

I laid in bed and covered myself in the wonderfully soft silk blankets. My eyelids became heavy, and I fell asleep.

And I did not like what I saw.
