Laxus' POV

I quickly stood up and ran into the kitchen. I realized my face was red but I ignored it and asked Freed "Really?" I smiled, then I felt like I was acting too much like a softy, but I admit I had wanted kids with Freed ever since I realized my feeling for him.

Freed turned around, tears in his eyes and hugged me. I smiled, then pushed him away.

"Freed, you know you can't get pregnant, right?" I asked. He looked very astounded and hurt.

"Laxus, yes I can. We're in love, right?" I looked down at him. He sure was an idiot. But he was my idiot.

"Freed, you're a guy. Guys can't get pregnant." I told him putting a hand on his head, and patting his green hair.

Freed looked like he was going to cry, so I said, "Freed, we can have a kid some other way." He looked up at me with his blue eyes. "Man up, and let's go ask a doctor."

"If you want your own biological child, you're going to need a surrogate mother." The doctor said.

"What's a surrogate?" Freed asked, and looked towards me.

"A surrogate is a woman who carries your child for you. But if you have a surrogate mother, only one of you can be genetically related to your child. The surrogate is usually someone you don't know, and you pay her. But some couples choose to ask someone they know, because they think it's safer for their child and they can have more connection with the mother."

I gave the doctor a strange look. "What do you mean only one of us will be related?"

"I mean that only one of you can give DNA to the mother." the doctor said, looking a bit frightened at the look I gave him.

I stood up in my chair, and slammed my hands on the doctor's desk. "That is not acceptable! How are we supposed to choose something like that? Tell us something we can do!" I yelled, making Freed blush with embarrassment.

"Calm down, Laxy," he said and I sat down still fuming.

"Well, there is an experimental procedure..." the doctor said, shaking with fear. "But it's never been tried, on animals or humans."

"Do it." I demanded.

"Well, I mean, you're not even sure you're going to do it or who the surrogate's going to be, she needs to consent." the doctor said, sounding very unprofessional in his fear.

"Fine." I said. "We'll come back once we've decided." I gave the doctor a death stare and started to leave. Freed walked behind me, and I saw out of the corner of my eye he turned around and whispered 'sorry' to the doctor. I ignored it.

Freed's POV

When we got back to the car I insisted to drive. "Laxus, you're too angry. You're going to electrocute the car or something." He finally gave in and got on the passenger's side. "So, what do you think?" I said, grinning when I thought about holding our new baby.

"What do you mean? About the jerk doctor?"

"No," I said, rolling my eyes. "I mean how our dream is finally in our reach." It had been weeks since our discussion, and we'd finally gotten up the courage today.

He smiled for a split second, then said, "I wouldn't say that."

"Why not?" I asked him, looking away from the road and at his disappointed face.

"Nothing," he said, shaking his head slightly.

"So what do you think about the surrogate?" I said, continuing my grinning.
