First day of school

It was my ninth grade year were it all truly began.

Where I live, we start middle school in 7th grade, and high school in 10th. I had just turned 15 the summer before, and I was soo ready to start my last year of junior high.

I put on my red flannel shirt and a pair of black skinny jeans, and got ready for school. My mom made me breakfast and I hurriedly ate it while I made sure I had everything in my backpack. (I would never let any one know, but I was kind of ocd, for a guy at least.)

My mom kissed my still tan from summer face, and ran her fingers through my thick brown hair.

"I can't believe my little Ausie's growin up so fast." She said, almost breaking out in tears. I gave a smile smile.

"I sure am, but missing the first day of school isn't going to age any slower." I said sliding past my mom and twisting the handle to the front door.

"Fine, I'll let u go," My mother said with a small laugh, "have an amazing day!"

Little did she know, that this would be the first, of the most amazing, and horrible, days I'd ever experience.

"Doubtful." I said sarcastically, walking out the door and trotting down the steps with a wave.

I walk one house down to where my best friend Jonah lives. Before I have the chance to knock, he swings the door open and frowns at me.

"You look happy." He says, confused.

"Why would I be happy? We have to go to school again!" I say, quickly wiping the smile off my face.

"True, summer over! No more going to the pool everyday, no more riding our bikes to get snow cones, no more sleeping in, no more hot babes to scare away at the fair." Jonah says sadly.

"Good one Jonah, but we all know the hot babes at the fair were running away from you, not me." I said laughing.

He laughed too, and we started walking to the bus stop at the corner of the street we lived on.

I looked longingly at the window of the small yellow house, that belongs to Ruby as we walk by.

"Honestly Austin?" My best friend says annoyed "Still hung up over that Ruby chick? You've only talked to her like once when u were 10."

"Her mom told me she was coming to our school in junior high, but is been 2 years!" I say sadly.

"Maybe it's time you move on, and find another girl to obsess over." Says Jonah. (I've told him everything about my crush on her.)

I just sigh and look down at my feet. Here goes another year of loneliness.

We stand in the line of other kids from neighboring houses while we await the bus to pick us up and take us to school.

I look down at my phone and text my other friend Zayn telling him me and Jonah were about to leave school, and to meet us in the foyer.

That was the moment. The moment I looked up from my phone, and once again, my heart stopped mid-beat and I froze.

Standing a few feet in front of me, was a pretty red haired girl wearing a navy blue dress with a red flannel just like mine tied around her waist. Her hair was straightened and in a long high pony tail that went down to her lower back.

Jonah looked at me in utter confusion. "Dude what's wrong?" He said, half amazed half concerned.

I just nudge my head forward, signaling for him to look in front of us.
