Chapter 7: Paul and Lillian

I stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom of my small apartment. I had my nicest shirt on, the only one I could find that looked somewhat nice and wasn't covered in paint splatters. It was a light pink color, a basic polo. I had my best jeans on. They were a deep blue color, and some what tight, but I figured they were ok. My hand grabbed the grey brush and quickly brushed through most of my hair. I pushed forward my bangs and though a couple of knots, but it looked presentable.

So, I quickly slipped my feet into my green flip flops, and I walked out of my apartment with my small black, bag that was covered in paint. I had some cash, a little makeup, and, a small notepad and pencil. Once I locked the door, I tossed the key into my bag and walked to the stairs only to run into Paul and Lilly.

"Hey guys." I spoke with a smile. They nodded in a greeting and we all walked back down the few flights of stairs. I walked behind them, and something caught my eye.

They both were holding hands. Of course, my first guess was that they were dating. It surprised me. I mean I knew she liked him when I still lived in Liverpool, but I didn't realize that they would actually date! It's no big deal, as long as their happy, I'm happy.

Right?

I would hope so.

Well anyway, we all go in the car once outside the apartment building. I sat in the back seat of the car and the other two sat in the front seats. I sat back in the seat, behind Lilly. We road in silence as Paul drived us deeper into Liverpool. My eyes were surprising glued to the side of Paul's head. His nose was outlined in the sun light. I could see one of his hazel eyes flickering back between Lilly and the road. I heard them mummer between each other.

I wondered what they were talking about. Me, maybe? Or something else? Finally, Paul spoke to me.

"Is there something on my face?" He noticed I was staring at him. A quickly pink blush crossed my face and I looked out the window in embarrassment. He was probably laughing at me.

I did hear laughter, but not Paul's

"Yeah, I'll get it." I looked to see what the hell she was talking about. But when I looked, I saw her leaned over and kissing Paul's lips. He had turned his hand so she could land a good kiss. Out of the corner of his eye, he looked at me. Why was his eyes on me? So many questions have appeared since I have returned to Liverpool, and none of them will ever be answered.

Lilly pulled away after just a couple of seconds, and Paul looked back at road. I had to keep my eyes glued onto the world outside the car, I had this strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. I felt like slapping Lilly across the face and making out with Paul.

Jealousy? Yeah probably. But I kept my hands to my self, and avoided eye contact with Paul.

"So," I finally spoke, calling attention to myself, "You guys dating?" I stuck my head between the other two.

"Yeah." Lilly answered, smiling at Paul, "For about a year." She placed her small hand on Paul's thigh.

"That's fab." I leaned backwards, not really caring. Finally, Paul pulled the car in front of a simple diner. Paul got out and quickly walked around the front of the car to open the door for Lilly. I opened the door and slipped out of the car behind Lilly and Paul.

I looked up at the sign on the top of the diner. I just simple said Diner with a blue color. I walked up the few steps and into the door. Paul and Lilly were in front of me. It was a cute little dinner. A line of booths were on one side of the wall, and a cute little bar on the other side. There were tables with two seats each buy the window.

We sat in the first booth, its red rubber cushioned my back. The other two sat across from me, across the wooden table. A middle aged woman walked up to us, her hair was pulled back in a bun and she had a simple notepad and pen.

She quickly took our orders and left. I just asked for a hamburger with cheese and a coke. I didn't pay attention to what the others ordered. Paul kept his arm around Lilly's shoulder. I felt green of envy. I don't like Paul. Oh wait I know, I am just jealous because my boyfriend dumped me and I miss that feeling. Yeah that's right.

"How has your last few years been in New York?" Lilly leaned forward, half way across the table interested in me, and my life.

"Good good." I told them about going to art school, and about being an artist.

"Oh, I'm an artist too, but I create songs not paintings." Paul said, slightly nodding.

"You play? What instruments?" I asked him, interested in what he played.

"In my band, I play bass." He answered quickly. Lilly leaned back in the rubber seat, causing it to squeak as she moved.

Wow, he's in a band. That's cool, "What's the name of your band?" I barely finished the question when Paul answered.

"The beatles."
