Chapter 14 - Party and the after party
When the hands of my watch said 6:20, I told Paul we should head back to his place. So we did. He drove us deeper into Liverpool, towards his small house. I guess he figured we could eat dinner at his place, I don't know.
"Paul, I almost forgot to tell you something." I turned my attention from the street to Paul.
"Hm, what?" Paul was focused on the road ahead.
"Happy birthday." I didn't need to see his reaction to know he was happy to hear that. I would be too if I got kicked out of my house on my birthday and the only place I could go was the person I used to hate. At least he could enjoy his surprise party for the rest of the night.
Finally, he pulled the car into the side of the road and parked it. I stepped out of the car and walked up to the house, with Paul rushing to my side. The one story house was dark, with all lights off. We got to the front door, and it was so hard not to laugh. Its that feeling where you know something and when you try not to tell someone you end up laughing.
Yeah, it's like that.
Paul unlocked the door and opened it. He opened it and I walked in behind him. And the classic flash of the lights coming on and everyone jumping out yelling Surprise! at the top of their lungs. Paul laughed a deep laugh and Lilly was right in the front.
"Happy birthday Paul!" She jumped on him, kissing him massively. John whistled loudly causing laughter from everyone. I could see John and some chick he was with, George and Ringo, a few friends from long ago which I should chat with later, and Paul's dad and brother Michael.
Someone brought out a huge cake with candles. It was pretty badly decorated. But it became apparent why quickly.
"Thank you John for this wonderful cake." Said John which made everyone laugh. I stepped close to the middle of the group and looked at John.
"Thank you John for the piece of shit cake you made. If it tasted as good as it looks, then it might as well go in the toilet." John became embarssed, and it was quiet for a second, before everyone cryed out in laughter. Even John and his girlfriend. Someone passed out plates and forks and we all dug into the cake and everyone sat in different places. I traveled around, talking to different people, laughing with others, meeting people I didn't know before. It was really fun.
Then somebody put on a record and everyone began dancing and singing along. Ringo grabbed me from my coversation with John's girlfriend, who turned out to be his wife. He danced with me, horribly, but dancing. I lightly dance with him, laughing at this.
It was a fun night, but it wasn't over yet.

Around 11:30, everyone cleared out. I stayed behind to help clean up. The mess was pretty big, so I took a trash bag and Ringo, George, Paul, Lilly and I helped clean and pick up trash. Some Elvis song was playing while this was going on. We sung along and had fun. I didn't know cleaning up after a surprise party could be fun.
12:00 was the time when we finished and Ringo asked me if I wanted a ride.
"You can go home, I'll get a ride from someone else." I smiled at him and Ringo nodded.
"Alright, see ya." He left, saying good bye to everone who was left. Then I yawned loud.
"You can just stay here for the night." George told me, while we all sat on the couch, "If you want to, stay in the guest room." Then George stood and walked to the long hallway which lead to the three bedrooms and a bathroom. He told us good night and went into his room. Which left Paul, Lily and me.
"I think I will stay." I told Paul who was sitting next to Lilly on the large couch. I sat on the love seat next to them. They nodded. Lilly kissed Paul good night, told him happy birthday, and left.
"This was an awesome party." And I stood up, "Well I'm going to bed, night." And I walked into the last door in the hallway.

I laid in the bed, under the white sheets, still wearing the clothes from earlier. The clock blinked 2:00 in the morning. I couldn't sleep. Probably from the load of cake I ate earlier. My tounge felt dry, I really need a cup of water. So, I slipped out of bed and walked down the hallway.
It was dark, except for the soft night light which was plugged into the wall. I didn't feel too tired but I really need to sleep. When I reached the kitchen, I heard something and it made me jump.
"Wha-?" My hand hit the light switch and I turned it on. I saw Paul sitting on the counter, leaning against the wall, eating something out of a bowl with a spoon. "You scared me." I grabbed a cup from a cabinet and filled it up from the sink.
"Couldn't sleep? He asked me as I sipped the cold water.
"No, I think John put a tad bit too much sugar in his cake." I sat on the counter next to Paul, but sitting up.
"He was never the best cook." Paul admitted still eating what I believe was cereal.
"Today was the best." I put the cup on the counter and leaned back with Paul. "It was nice to hang out with you." Paul wiped his mouth with the cuff of his white shirt, and set the bowl beside him.
"Same with you." He turned his head over to me and smiled that cute smile.
"I hope you had a sweet birthday." I returned with a friendly smile.
"I did." Paul spoke with sincerity. I just looked into those eyes for one second and I was trapped. Paul didn't have to move or talk but I knew. I knew this friend thing wasn't going to work out very well.
It's really not that hard to tell you like someone when you make out with them.
