Tyler watched out of the corner of his eye as his boyfriend's knee bounced nervously in the passenger seat. He took one hand off the wheel and placed it on Evan's thigh. Evan sighed in return, lacing his fingers between Tyler's.

"You don't need to be nervous, Evan. My parents loved you." Tyler tried to assure the shaking Asian.

"Don't tell me I have nothing to be nervous about, Tyler. This isn't just your parents. It's a family reunion. I'm terrified." Evan whispered, looking out the window. Tyler sighed as he pulled into his parents long driveway that had multiple cars already parked in it. He turned off the car and turned to face Evan.

"Evan, no matter what happens in there, I've got your back. I've always got you, okay?" Tyler spoke softly, cupping Evan's cheek. Evan blushed and nodded, holding Tyler's intense gaze. Tyler kissed him softly, trying his best to calm his boyfriend. Evan retracted and buried his face in Tyler's neck.

"Promise you won't leave my side tonight?" He mumbled.

"I promise baby." Tyler kisses his temple before clambering out of the car and waiting for Evan. Evan reached his side and immediately took his hand, trying to calm his nerves.

Tyler got the exact reaction that he was hoping he wouldn't get when he introduced his boyfriend inside. Save for his parents and a few family members here and there, most weren't too keen on Tyler being with another man. Sure, they weren't blunt about it, but anyone with eyes could see the disgusted looks. Anyone with working ears could hear their whispers. Tyler just hoped Evan wasn't letting it get to him.

Hours passed, and Tyler watched as Evan became more and more quiet and withdrawn, only loosely holding Tyler's hand, keeping the other arm wrapped tightly around himself as he stared at the ground. Tyler had enough.

"How fucking terrible are you people?!" He snapped, slamming his fork down and standing up at the long dinner table. The room silenced and watched him with wide eyes. Dinner hadn't even been served and Tyler had already heard four comments, quite rude ones at that, be made about his boyfriend.

"Tyler, you don't have to-" Evan tried to stop him, grabbing his arm lightly.

"No Evan. I need to." Tyler turned back to his extended family with angry eyes. "How pathetic do you have to be to sit there and talk shit about the person I love just because he's a man?! I love Evan, he's my best friend, and the best thing that's ever happened to me! I will not sit here and let you all treat him like a piece of shit. He's my entire life, and if you can't take that, you don't deserve to be in my life." Tyler then turned to his parents. "I'm sorry Mom. You too Dad." He looked down at Evan and pulled him up. "We're leaving. I'm not putting you through this bullshit." Tyler wrapped his arm firmly around Evan and led him out to his car.

While driving, Tyler was gripping the steering wheel tightly, practically seething with anger. He pulled into a random parking lot of a fast food joint and shut off the car. His fingers still tightly holding the wheel. He heard Evan shifting around before soft lips pressed against his cheek. His anger practically dissolved as his hands fell into his lap. He looked over at Evan. Evan was looking down shyly, a smile on his lips.

"Marry me." Tyler blurted out, making Evan jump in surprise.

"W-what?" He stuttered. Evan didn't think he even heard Tyler correctly.

"Marry me, Evan. I know this isn't some romantic, cheesy proposal, but for fucks sake, I can't picture my life without you anymore. I don't want to. I love you, Evan. I meant everything I said back there. You're my life. I want to be by your side forever. So will you marry me?" Tyler looked straight into Evan's eyes as he pulled a small box out of his pocket, revealing a simple silver band. Simple but sweet. Evan started to cry, nodding his head frantically. Within seconds, the ring was on Evan's finger and their lips were locked in a heated kiss. One full of love and passion. Sealing their fate.

"I won't leave your side. I promise."
