Chapter 7
As we flew over the outskirts of the city once more, for the first time I actually acknowledged the dreams or visions that I had been having recently. What did they mean? Why was I receiving them? My heart lurched. Shaking those thoughts out of my head, I focused on the wind that was hitting my face with full-on force. It was a cloudless sky, with Arian leading the way, again. He seems to know the city better than I do. We flew over the hospital in which we had dropped Haylee off at. I had completely forgotten about my best friend. I had promised I would visit her today. But what would I do about my wings? They were in plain sight.
"We are almost at your house!" Arian shouted. I somehow heard him over the wind. He thrust his head back to look at me. "We should start flying lower to stop the humans seeing us. Remember that we aren't covered by a Glamour. We didn't have time to create one. Too hard without a Wand anyway."
"What's a Glamour?" I yelled over the wind.
"Its a magical spell that lets something like wings or anything on demons or angels be hidden. Only the person who cast the spell and the subject it was cast on can end up seeing the original look. Anyway, follow me!" He yelled back, me only just managing to hear over the wind. He flew downwards, me not far behind. We landed on the front lawn of my house, me buckling my knees at the impact of landing. Second time, not done do well. Recovering, I looked up. It was eerily quiet, the front window smashed, the broken glass strewn everywhere, glinting in the late morning sunlight. No one was around, and you could see my ruined bedroom through the broken window.
"Nothing is here." I said, confused at why we had hesitated for so long. I trusted Arian, but sometimes I wondered why he was taking so long. My heart sank when I thought of my family, whether my mother was a demon or not.
"I'm not so sure." He said. Suddenly, I saw a small rustle in some of the nearby bushes, placed next to the fence. I pointed over to them. Something, hopefully my disappeared family, was in there.
"Over there." I whispered to Arian. He looked over in the direction. More rustling.
"Stay here." He said, and walked slowly over to the bushes. He leaned over to look what was in there, and I heard a little scream. Rushing over to the bushes, Arian having a bewildered expression on his face, I recognised that little face immediately.
"Oh, my God, Thea! It's you!" Zelia cried, and tears started rolling down her cheeks. She thrust herself into me, embracing me. "I've been so scared! I don't know what happened! All I saw was this weird, shrieking creature appear out of nowhere! It took Mum, who just faded away, and left me alone. It went straight for your room after ignoring me. I rushed straight to find you, and all I saw was a smashed window, the creature and you gone. No neighbour came to help! Nobody came!" She shook, and I continued to hold onto her.
"Um, does anybody realise that my wonderful self is still here?" Arian remarked. Looking up, Zelia pulled away from me, glaring at Arian.
"Who are you?" She growled, her olive-green eyes full of mischief and uncertainty as to who this strange person was in front of her. Looking away, I was absorbed in thoughts. I missed Arian's answer. Mum was still missing. I was still left with no answers as to what was going on. Why were they only coming for my family now? Are there any other families with similar problems?...
Zelia began pointing at the huge wings that rested on Arian and I's backs, her mouth wide open with shock. "Wha-what are those?" She stammered, her eyes bright with newfound curiosity.
"They are wings." Arian said, chewing on his lip. "Really, what else would they be?" He rolled his eyes, and I sighed towards him. Seriously, I had just found my sister, who I had been so worried about!
