Chapter 8
It wasn't until two days later of waiting around in the safe house that something happened. We had been expecting a Golden Angel attack at any moment, but it never came. I guess we weren't followed after I had that little 'incident' with the Golden Angel in the café. I sat on one of the couches in the newly-discovered common area, reading a book I had found in an abandoned cupboard. Until Zelia came wondering into the room, dragging Arian by the hand. I looked up from the novel, interested by the spectacle. Arian's face looked like it was pleading for help; it was the opposite of his usually smug or bright face. Zelia looked keen; she was oblivious to how Arian was reacting. Yesterday we had gone back to my old home to gather some supplies and clothes. Zelia was wearing her usual jeans and T-shirt. We had also brought home some of her toys and books, particularly when she demanded her precious Littlest Pet Shop.
"I have to show you something. A very rare one that took me months to find." Zelia explained, bursting to the brim with rants and facts about her toys. Arian looked desperate. He looked pleadingly at me, his blue eyes shining. Zelia continued to rant on and on about her toys. I tried not to laugh behind my book.
"Help!" Arian mouthed to me.
I smiled evilly behind my book. Arian seemed to give up, and finally pretended to show interest in Zelia and her little-kid toys. Looking back to the words of the page, my stomach growled. I hadn't eaten since lunch yesterday, which consisted of a meagre muesli bar and orange juice that we had managed to scrounge from my abandoned home.
Getting up from the comfy chair and dumping the book down, I wandered into the kitchen, browsing the cupboards as I went. Most of them were empty, and looked like they hadn't been used in months due to the amount of dust and cobwebs in there. It was as if they had been left in a hurry; some were off the hinges and hanging on the sides. Something had caused them to be like that. Oh well, whatever did is long over or long gone. I thought, aimlessly walking to the fridge, that was the one thing still working. My wings folded, making sure I wasn't hitting anything, I opened the door and sighed.
Nothing except water in there. Nothing.
"Arian!" I called. At least I was now helping him get away from my sister.
"Yeah!" He said. I heard the scrambling of feet, desperate to get to me.
"we need some food and supplies if we want to stay here any longer." I said, smiling at how tired he looked.
"Thank god. Its something to do. I need to get out of this place, and especially away from your little sister's toys."
I laughed as he grinned, his bright blue eyes glinting in amusement. Using my agility to speed around to the back of him, I hugged him. He relaxed into my unexpected embrace. Though my mother was missing, and my best friend most likely still in hospital, nothing could change this relaxing moment, where nothing was worrying either one of us.
"Thank you. For everything." I murmured into his muscular back.
"Don't thank me for anything. I thank you, although you have been causing us a lot of unneeded attention." He smiled and I released my embrace. I walked over to the fridge to close it, as there clearly was nothing interesting in there.
"We had better go if we're going to actually get anywhere today." I exclaimed, ignoring the fact that Arian was looking at me in sort of dreamy way.
Snapping out of his trance, Arian nodded.
"Zelia! We're going to get some food. Come with us please!" I shouted.
"Fine! I'm famished anyway." She said, walking into the kitchen.
