Chapter 4
Sitting up in bed, I tried my absolute best to control myself. My breathing was ragged, I was falling...
The deep crevice seemed small from up above. One minute she had been flying, the next she had been falling. Now, the crevice seemed never-ending. She gulped as the howling wind rushed past her ears, and her wings failed every time she tried to flap them, trying to send herself flying upwards. This place seemed to be calling to her. She screamed as the deep dark floor of the canyon came towards her frightened face. Hitting the ground at full force, stars appeared in front of the girl's eyes. Dazed, but somehow against all odds alive and unharmed, she stood up. A growling noise put her on alert. Trying her wings once more, they miraculously worked. She flew upwards, towards the light of the sky, all the girl could see was pure black. Confused, she continued upwards. The growling was getting closer. In total darkness, she turned around, facing the floor. Still flying upwards, she hit a boiling-hot barrier that stopped her. Scared now, trapped, she let herself fall. The growling was now next to her as she laid upon the ground. She closed her eyes, knowing it was the monster at the end of the road. She curled herself into a ball, awaiting death... all she felt was happiness and pain...
...
"THEA! Its alright, you were defending yourself, that is all I can say." Mum said. Jerking awake, sitting up still, I looked frantically around the room. What had I done? What had I just envisioned? Was it going to be my bitter and brutal end? Someone else's fate? I don't know, but a dream, or vision for that matter, I had never had one so vivid and so... real.
I had killed, or at least told someone to, my father. He was attacking me, I know, but did he know that I was his daughter? He was so young though, but how could only an angel that looked eighteen be my father... duh, I thought, angels and demons are immortal. It had never been more clear, but I was immortal. What was going on with my life?
Managing to calm myself down enough, though I don't know how. Maybe yet another ability. Anyway, I managed to calm myself down enough that I spoke to my mother, who had a worried look on her face. She looked as if she had been crying.
"I am so sorry that I didn't tell you earlier", she soothed, placing my golden-brown hair behind my ear. "I'm surprised that you haven't run away or gone of sulking yet, like most teen-". She faltered on the words 'most teens'. I gulped. I wasn't 'most teens' anymore. "Like newly-found Black Angels." She finished, seemingly happy to have found the right words.
"I just had a very strange dream. It was of a girl, not me, who fell down into a canyon. She was killed. It was too real," I said, tears running down my cheeks.
"Hey, we all have dreams like this sometimes."
"No, but this was real."
"Most dreams feel real."
"No, not visions like this one."
Mum paused. Sitting on the edge of my bed, she sighed. She kissed me. "It is only midday. We need to have some lunch," she said. "As a special treat, I'll bring it into here, while you can have lunch in bed, instead of breakfast in bed." She winked.
I sighed. She got up and left the room, turning out the light. I closed my eyes. I was falling once again...
But this time it was a dreamless sleep.
...
I woke to the tickle of a feather. Half-asleep, I groggily pushed the thing that was tickling my nose away. It just sprung back, hitting my face. I laughed quietly to myself, at my own ridiculousness that I had practically hit myself in the face. Fully awake now, I opened my eyes, facing my clock. It read that it was four in the afternoon. Tiredly, I pushed myself up, meaning to sit up. But something was keeping me pinned to the bed. Sharp pains rode through my back. Gritting my teeth, I managed to push myself upwards, excruciating pain shooting through me. Feathers had surrounded me now, black, shining metallic ones. Slightly disturbed, I turned to look at my back. What was there frightened me. I gasped in awe and disbelief. I knew they would come, but when they would come was a different story.
