POV- Raven

I woke up to a bright light shining on my face, and had to put a hand up to block it. I sheepishly looked around, my brain still a little fuzzy. After a few seconds, I clued in. It was dawn now, and the rays of sunlight were shining in through my window. It brightened my room with a warm, soft glow. It was beautiful, the way the sun warmed the colors of my room. The way the dark wood looked, the walls, and the reflection off of posters. It made me smile, and I relaxed my body for a minute.

I felt Lilly stir beside me as she woke up. She groggily rubbed her eyes, and said good morning.

"Good morning, sweetheart." I softly said to her, and rolled onto my back. I took a  breath, soaking in the warmth of the blankets for just a moment longer. I pulled them back and sat up, instantly regretting it. It was cold, so I went over to my dresser and brought me and Lilly hoodies. I helped her put hers on, then slipped mine on. I took her hand, and we walked out of my room.

We walk quietly down the hall, to her room. I open her door, and she goes straight to her bed. She climbs into her pink comforter, and snuggles up. I quietly close the door, walking quietly down the hallway. I go down to the kitchen to start breakfast.

Okay, what are we gunna have....OH! We have bacon. Perfect!

I grab the bacon out of the freezer and separate some strips. Using about half a pound, I start to cook it in a pan, adding in a little maple syrup for extra sweetness. I look in the fridge next, and find some left over pancake batter, and eggs. I crack a few eggs into  a separate pan, and while they cook I mix the pancake batter to soften it after spending so much still time in the fridge.

I get out an electric pan, and set it up. While it's heating up, I am able to flip the eggs, and flip the bacon, and get coffee ready. I put some batter onto the electric pan, making about medium sized pancakes.

Hmmmm....smells sooo goood. I think to myself. The bacon smells like the best bacon in the world, and on top of that, it smells like maple. The pancakes are almost done cooking, and smell light and warm. The eggs are done, and I flip them onto a plate, you can see the stream rolling off of them. The food smelled soo good it was making my mouth water, and my stomach started to growl. The bacon was the best smelling, and was making me hungry the most.

I arrange all the eggs on one plate, all the bacon on the other, and once the pancakes are finished, I also arrange those on a separate plate. I set all the plates in the middle of the table, and add in four plates, four knives, four forks, and four spoons. I arrange them neatly, and set a cup by each plate. The coffee is ready by now, and so I take it from the holder, and set the glass pot down on a hot pad, on the table.

I almost forgot...I run to the front door, and burst it open. The newspaper sitting right there in my mail box. I bring it into the kitchen and set it upon the country. Like I always do.

I hope they enjoy this..  I think to myself, and look at the clock. It was 6:58am, I was two minutes early today. I hear their footsteps upstairs as they slowly  wake. I sit down, and wait.

First, Lilly comes downstairs, holding Mimi, and rubbing her eyes. She walks over to me and I take her bunny. She would get into a lot of trouble if mom saw her bring the old, dirty bunny to breakfast. I quickly hide the bunny, and rush to take my seat again. As I sit down again, my mother and brother walk down the stairs. He smirks at me, and sits. My mother completely ignores us, and grabs the newspaper I brought in.

We sit and eat quietly, except for my brother. He taps his hands, making horrible beat noises. I believe he is trying to replicate a rap song, but it sounds like absolute trash. Lilly, I can tell she doesn't feel comfortable, and slows down on her eating. I look at her, and she catches my eye. I know mum and brother aren't looking, so I shake my head at Lilly. If she grows impatient then mom will go on a rampage.

Breakfast seems to last forever. We are all silent other than my brothers constant, annoying sounds. Of course, I can't say anything. But it seems to me that the tension in the air is more intense today....I can't explain it. My mother doesn't look at us, and her fork hits the plate harder than usual, making more noises. My brother is gritting his teeth, and refuses to look at any of us. I cannot explain it but it seems almost....almost like someone died.

Lilly finished before the rest of us, and sits quietly. I can tell she wants to go back to her room; probably because of the tension in the room. She doesn't make a noise, and sits straight up with her hands folded in her lap. She does not laugh, smile, whimper, or even sigh. She is completely silent. But her eyes are a dead giveaway. She's terrified. In her eyes you can see she's basically sitting on the edge of her seat. She was ready to take off and run, at a moments notice......and then it happened.

"Why aren't you eating?" My mother asked sternly, her voice cutting like knife. Lilly looked up, startled. I looked at my mother, she didn't even make eye contact with Lilly. My brother snorted and chuckled a little under his breath. What's the deal? She hasn't spoken all morning...why wou.... but my thoughts were interrupted.

"You think you can get away with not eating?" My mother snapped, pointing her fork at Lilly. Then took another bite of her food. Lilly looked stunned, terror stained her eyes.

"Look at you, you're pathetic. You'rs skinny as a toothpick, no one likes a toothpick sweetheart." my mother says in a tone that sounds almost like she's being a serious jerk, but also sarcastic. I glance over at Lilly who looks to be on the verge of tears.

"You!" she shouts at me, an I jump. "What?" I instantly reply. My voice stayed calm, but my heart started to beat really fast, and my palms started to sweat. I couldn't figure it out, mom never raged at the table. Especially, at breakfast time. But I noticed the redness in her eyes, the shakiness of her hands, and the way she slouched on her elbows and threw her hands about. I knew as soon as I saw that, that this wasn't gunna be a good day. In the corner of my eye, I saw my brother smiling over at me.

Complete panic took over me, I knew what it meant when he smiled at me like that, and when my mother starts acting like that. I've seen it all before, I know what it all means, why didn't I figure it out sooner. Lilly never clued in, she doesn't know the full extent, and with the abrupt behaviour, I was worried for her.

The rest of breakfast wasn't too bad, as mom and brother became deadly silent. After breakfast was over, I sent Lilly to her room. I cleared the table, and set the dishes in the sink. Running some hot water, adding some soap, and swishing it around. My heart was still beating, feeling like it was going to rip out of my chest.

I know it's gunna happen...I know it will happen.....But when..
