"Nova?" I heard as I was slowly shaken awake. When I opened my eyes, my dad was there, smiling. "Happy Birthday." He said happily. I then remembered, "Oh yeah, I turn 16 today." I smiled and got out of bed.

When I walked into the kitchen, I saw that my dad had birthday pancakes, and a small box. "What's this?" I asked. "Open it." He replied. Inside the box was my mothers pearl necklace. My mom died when I was 10 in a car accident. My dad said that I was there too, but I lost my memory. Since then, I can't really remember my childhood. "She had so many other pretty necklaces, but she wanted you to have that single one on your 16th birthday." My dad said. "Oh yeah, Meg want to go to the mall with you today. She said she will meet you in front of our house." He added.

I nodded as I went upstairs to get dressed. I looked in the mirror and said to myself. "Okay November, you are 16 now, you can do this." As I brushed out my long brown hair. One I finished that, I took a pill, I have a bad heart, so I need pills, my dad says. I then put on my favourite white blouse and a pair of light blue jeans. To top it off, I put on my mothers' necklace, but something didn't feel right. "Meg's here!" My dad yelled from the bottom of the stairs. I rushed down, put on my converse sneakers and ran out the door. Meg is my best friend, she is 16 too, has blonde hair, blue eyes, and is pretty tall. "Happy birthday!" she said and we hugged. We then started walking to the mall, it was only a few blocks away from my house. As we walked past the alley, I saw two men wearing masks, and one pointed at me.

I nudged Meg and we walked faster. Out of nowhere, Meg screamed and fell to the floor. She had been it with a tranquilizer dart. "Meg!" I yelled. A hand was quickly pressed over my mouth, muffling my screams. My hands were then grabbed and crossed behind my back and tied up. I tried to scream, but I was dragged into the alley and there were no cars on the street. Once I was in the alley, the men put me down and held my legs as they were tied. "Please just let me go." I cried. They men looked at eachother and one grabbed a roll of duct tape out of his pocket. "No, no please don't." I begged. A strip of duct tape was then placed over my mouth.

Just then, a white SUV drove down the alley and I felt my heart lift in hope. When it stopped beside us, the man who stepped out of the SUV had a mask like the other men. The two men picked me up while the driver opened the door. I was then placed in the back seat. 10 minutes of driving later, the men took off their masks. The men who kidnapped me looked oddly familiar, but I couldn't place them, but I had never seen the driver.

One of the men crawled to the beck seat to talk to me. He had light brown hair and bright blue eyes. "Can I take the tape off and talk to you?" he asked. I nodded. He nodded back and slowly peeled off the tape. "Ow." I said quietly. "Sorry." He replied. We sat in silence for a few minutes. "Who are you, and why am I here?" I asked. I tried to be confident, but I was really nervous. He smiled. "My name is Jake, and that's Matt." He said as he pointed to the other man not driving. He had short very dark brown hair and dark brown eyes, he looked mad. They both looked my age, but the driver looked much older. Jake followed my gaze and saw I was looking at the driver. "That's Harold." Jack said. I nodded.

Jack then crawled to his seat and grabbed two blankets and a pillow. "How do you know who I am?" I asked. Matt glared at me. "We will explain later." He growled. Jack snapped back at Matt, "Don't talk to her like that!" Matt growled and turned around. "Sorry." Jack said to me. I nodded. "Here, you should rest, you need to sleep." Jack said softly. "Where are you taking me?" I asked as he gently lifted my head and placed the pillow under it. He grinned. "Home." He said as the blankets were placed on top of me. I was speechless, I felt scared, but a part of me was... hopeful. I smiled and drifted off into a deep sleep.
