"So, what powers do you guys have?" I asked the boys.
We had been talking and eating pizza on the floor for about an hour and I was just then asking that question. "We prefer to call them abilities. Powers sounds so childish." Jack said with a slight grin. I laughed. "Okay, what is your ability, Jack?" Jack stood up and helped me stand. He then walked me over to the fridge.
"Pick it up."
Jack said to me. I looked at him in confusion. "What?" I asked. he then replied, "the fridge, lift it up." I looked at him oddly, but obliged. When I couldn't, because it a fucking fridge, I stepped back and told Jack, "I can't. It's too heavy" Jack then smiled and said,
"That's where I come in."
I watched Jack walk towards the fridge and pick it up with ease. My eyes widened in disbelief. "How?" I asked. "My ability is strength, but I don't like using it unless it's absolutely necessary." Jack explained. I nodded and we walked back into the living room, but Matt wasn't there. "Matt?" Jack shouted. No reply. Suddenly, a hand was clamped over my mouth.
"Not this time." I thought to myself. I grabbed the hand over my mouth, put it over my shoulder, and flipped the person over, but nobody was there. Then, Jack and I heard a groan from thin air. Jack ran to me and asked if okay and asked if I was hurt. "No, I'm okay. But what was that?" I asked him. Jack looked at me angrily and said, "Matt."
I was confused, until Matt appeared seemingly out of thin air. He was on his back in shock, but still groaning. "His ability is invisibility?" I asked. Jack nodded and looked over at Matt.
"It was a joke!"
Matt said and groaned again as Jack helped him up. "You're a real ass, you know that?" Jack yelled at Matt. Matt then looked past Jack at me. "Sorry Nova, but nice flipping technique." He said weakly. I nodded and sat on the ground. "Hey Nova?" Jack asked. I looked at him. Then, I heard his voice again, he was sending me a thought.
"You may be different. We only have one ability, but because of your dad's experiments, you may have two or three."
I stared at Jack in disbelief, he nodded at me. Matt came over to me and said, "its 10:30, we should all get some sleep." Jack nodded in agreement, so did I. "I will take the couch." I said. Jack shook his head and said, "No, you are sleeping in my bed, I'm taking the couch."
Matt looked at us and said, "I'll let you two figure this out." And walked upstairs and went to bed.
"let me repay you for allowing me to sleep in your bed last night." I said angrily. Jack smiled, easing me. He then moved closer and said to me, "I'm not taking no for an answer Nova." I laughed and moved closer to him. "And if I refuse?" I asked Jack playfully. He then put his hands around my waist, and said, "I'll have to deal with you." I gasped as he picked me up.
"Put me down!" I laughed. Jack slung me over his shoulder and carried me to his bed. I was defenseless. "You're very light." Jack said to me as he placed me on the bed. He then sat down and we laughed for a few moments.
"Get some sleep." Jack said to me, gave me a warm smile, and walked out of his room. I laid in bed for a few minutes, then drifted off to sleep.
