"Let her go!"
I heard as I opened my eyes, dizzy and confused. Jack was yelling from a distance, and I was in an odd looking room. I looked to my left, and saw Matt. He had an oxygen mask on and an IV attached to him along with a heart rate monitor. When I looked to my right, I saw Jack at the end of the room, struggling to get past two guards to reach me. I tried to sit up, but was stopped by handcuffs on my wrists attached to the sides of the hospital bed I was laying on.
"Sir, you can't see her right now." One guard said, pushing Jack away. "Jack!" I yelled in despair. The guards turned around, startled by my voice, giving Jack a chance to get through the guards. He pushed them aside and ran over to my bed. "Nova, thank god you're alive." He said and held my hand. "What happened?" I asked, looking down at my cuffs. "After you passed out, guards came in and carried you and Matt away, but they didn't lock the door, so I followed them, you weren't out for long." Jack told me. I pulled at my cuffs, still no use. One of the guards came behind Jack and grabbed his arms.
"Let's go back to your room." He said, dragging Jack away. I tried to use my telekinesis, but I felt too weak. "Nova, It'll be okay, just sta-" Jack was cut off by the door slamming shut. It was just Matt, a guard, and me in the room now.
"You look familiar."
I said to the guard, who then looked at me concerned. "What?" he said, and walked beside my bed. "Uncle Bernie?" I asked sadly. He nodded. "I'm sorry Nova, I didn't want to do this to you, but without my si- Your mom, I was powerless." He said regrettably. "Uncle Bernie, please, you don't have to do this. Just uncuff me." I pleaded. He looked at the cuffs, then shook his head. "I can't, I'm sorry." He replied. I knew that he wouldn't do it, but it was worth a shot. I played my only card I had, and started crying.
"Please, Uncle Bernie, at least tell me where we are." I sobbed. I saw the sadness in his eyes. "You look just like your mother." He said and turned away, writing something on a scrap of paper. When he turned back, he had a small syringe with a blue liquid. "Check your pillowcase when you wake, but be careful, they're always watching" He said and injected the syringe into my neck.
"I love you, Nova."
Before I could respond, I blacked out.
I woke up a while later, in my bed, with Jack sitting at the foot of my bed. When I sat up, Jack looked over at me and then put his head down, trying to avoid eye contact. Something was different. I got up and stood in front of him, it was then that I noticed cuts and bruises on his arms and legs. I moved to touch Jack's arm, but he stood up and walked to his own bed.
"I didn't tell them." He said as he laid down. I ran over to him and put my hand on his stomach. "I don't care." I said angrily and shut my eyes, trying to heal him. "Nova, stop it." Jack said sternly. I shook my head and focused. Just then, I felt something hit my stomach, sending me flying backwards. I groaned in pain as Jack raced towards me.
"You just hit me."
I whispered, still sprawled across the floor. "I'm so sorry Nova, I really didn't mean to hit you. I don't know what came over me, are you okay?" I stood up and hugged Jack. "Okay? I'm ecstatic! Jack, you hit me!" I said overjoyed. I could tell that Jack was confused, so I pulled away and said "You hit me with super strength, you're immune to the medicine." Jacks look of bewilderment turned ecstatic in seconds. "Now we can find a way out." he said happily and we hugged. I then remembered what uncle Bernie had told me. I looked under my pillowcase, and found a scrap piece of paper with the layout of where we were written on it, and how to escape. Finally, the both of us felt some hope. We knew we could escape now...
we just needed to figure out how.
