“You’re going on a date in that?” Katrina asked in disbelief as I came down the stairs in shorts and a Blink 182 t-shirt. I wore my bikini underneath in case and I tried to prepare myself in every way possible. I don’t know why I was nervous, we were just friends, but still... I just don’t know. When I’m around Jack it’s different. Are we even friends? I don’t even know.

“This is proper camping attire and you didn’t pack anything relatively nice-looking in my suitcase so this is as good as it’s going to get,” I said, putting on my Toms.

            “And whose fault is that?”

            “Yours.”

“No Aubrey, it’s your fault for not packing before we left and not being attentive enough. Next time, write it down or something,” Katrina shot, staring at the TV. Someone was a little more moody than usual...

I groaned at her before walking outside and waiting for Jack. Soon enough, he came walking up the pathway and I smiled and walked over to him.

“Hi,” I said, giving him a hug. Oh my god, why did I just hug him? I quickly moved back and blushed. “Sorry, I just... sorry. So um, what are we going to do?” God, way to play the nervous card, Aubrey.

“I don’t know, let’s go to the beach,” he said, linking his arm with mine and walking with me down to the beach. I liked that he didn’t have anything planned because it seemed so... normal to me, I guess. I would probably do the same if I was a guy. I always come to everything unprepared anyways.

Once we got to the beach, we sat down on the sand and watched as the sun went down.

“I’ve never understood why people like watching the sun go down. It’s just something that happens every day, and it’s not like we’re never going to see it again and it’s pretty much the same thing every time. So really, what’s the point in loving it so much if you’re just-”

“You know, for a guitar player you sure do talk a lot,” Jack said with a laugh.

“What is that supposed to mean?” I asked, giving him a look of ‘you better say this right, motherfucker.’

“Well, guitar players don’t really talk a lot on stage or anything, they just play the guitar and go along with the set list. But I’m sure you do a lot of talking on stage, don’t you?” He said with a teasing smile.

“Yes as a matter of fact, I do. I seem to be the most talkative one in the band, so I usually do most of the talking,” I said, laughing at the thought of how much I actually do talk. Most of our concerts are just me talking... ok that’s not true but you know what I mean.

“I think it’s time to go swimming now,” Jack said, once I realized it was practically pitch black outside.

“It’s going to get cold soon,” I protested, while taking my shirt and shorts off anyways. My brain said no but my heart said go, and that’s usually where I always went wrong, but today it felt right.

“That’s exactly why we’re going in,” Jack said once his shirt was off as he ran into the water and I ran in behind him.

We laughed and swam around for what felt like minutes, but was probably hours. It was the most fun I had in a really long time.

“Hey, is that a tattoo I see?” Jack asked from behind me when I was swimming away from him.

“Yeah, I have a few,” I said, stopping and letting him catch up to me. “I’m guessing the one you were looking at was the one on my back. That was my first tattoo that I got with Katrina when we were eighteen and we sold our first thousand dollars in merch,” I explained. The tattoo was on my lower back, and it was just a simple and classic; ‘Imagine’ written in cursive writing. We got that one because it was the only one we could agree on.

Jack nodded. “I think it looks great,” he murmured, coming a bit closer to me.

“Th-thank you,” I whispered as his lips came closer to mine. Before his lips could come in contact with mine, I turned my head. “Jack, I’m sorry, but I just can’t.”

            He sighed. “It’s fine.”

“Ugh, no it’s not. I need to move on, I really do. And I really like you, Jack. But... Justin broke my heart and I just... need some time, I guess,” I explained. There were no words to describe how much I wanted to kiss Jack right now, but I was just too fucking worried.

“You know, I’ve never felt like this about anyone before, other than Alex. But if you need time, I can give you time. I have all summer,” he said with a smirk. It was just like him to crack a joke at a time like this, which is why I’ve grown to like him so much. He’s funny, and just plain amazing.

“Ok, while you’re waiting you can just have sex with Alex,” I said with a teasing grin.

Katrina, Jack, Alex, and me were having some sort of acoustic jam session in the middle of the camp, while people went on with their days, doing more important things. I was having the time of my life, and trying my hardest to forget about a certain douche bag.

“Well, that was fun but I’m starving,” Katrina said once we finished singing an acoustic version of Caraphernelia by Pierce The Veil on my request.

“Me too,” Jack said. “I could-”

“How about you just stay here with Aubrey and me and Katrina will go get you some food?” Alex suggested, standing up with Katrina.

“Oh yeah, good idea Alex,” Katrina said, pulling Alex away. Me and Jack laughed at their attempt to get us alone.

“I wonder when we’re going to start practicing a set for that concert and the end of the month,” I said while putting my guitar back into the case. I’m pretty sure that’s where everyone was; in their cabins thinking of a set list while we sat around doing nothing.

“What did I fucking tell you about being with my girl?” Someone sneered from behind us.
