I'm dedicating this chapter to @EllaBella_ because she's been through quite a lot lately and I want to cheer her up especially because she's been an amazing friend to me! So here you go Ella x

Lying on my bed whilst writing poems on my laptop is one of my favourite hobbies, especially when it means I can laze around in pj's and eat chocolate to help my mind function. I had a packet of those chocolate/sweet Eclairs and was chewing one whilst trying to think of a word that rhymed with 'pleasure'.

 Leisure...

Measure...

Treasure...

'Nikki, there's someone at the door! Go answer it!' Curt yelled from inside his room. I heard Elliot snigger as I got up and walked downstairs. I opened the door to my mum who just walked in not even looking at me.

'Hi?' I frowned. Usually my mum always asks how my day at school was and seeing as I started a new school today I kind of expected her to bother asking.

'Hi.' She said hurriedly, putting her handbag on the dining room table and pulling her phone out from inside of it. I liked my mums phone, she had a white blackberry in a pink case. It was really cool but personally my white iPhone beat it. Curt had a black iPhone and called me and mum racist for getting white. Gosh...

'Yeah my day was great thanks for asking.' Mum ignored my sarcasm and started texting hurriedly, 'Made some friends today, managed to not get lost apart from for my first lesson...'

'Nikki one minute...' Mum put her phone up to her ear and started nibbling her nails.

'Sure because your phone is way more interesting than your own daughter.' I grunted, 'And you call yourself a good mo-'

'Shut up a minute Nikki!' Mum swatted me away and I stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind me. I didn't go anywhere though, I just leant against the dining room door listening to my mums voice speaking, 'Hello this is Courtney Runnells, Marcus Lite's ex-wife. I was calling to try and find out if it was true, is Marcus okay? If you could call me back as soon as possible I'd be very grateful, thank you goodbye.'

Why was my mum asking if my dad was okay? After everything he'd put us through, put her through, she was calling to see if he was okay?! And what was true or not?!

The dining room door opened and I fell backwards, landing on my bum on my mums feet, 'Get up Nikki.'

'What the hell was that all about?!' I spat, standing back up and following mum into the lounge.

She sat down and switched the TV on, 'Not now Nikki, please just go and play with your brother.'

'Play with Curt? What's wrong with you mum?! You can't ignore me!'

'I can, go please.' Mum sighed.

'No.'

Mum looked at me, her nostrils flaring with anger, 'Nikki bog off!'

My eyes opened wide. My mum never swears, she's completely against swearing, but she looked like she didn't even care. 'Bog' in her mind was ruder than a certain word beginning with the letter 'F'...

'FINE!' I shouted, jumping up and storming out of the room, the house. I slammed the front door behind me and walked out of the drive and down the road. I walked, no marched, down to a field where me, mum, Curt and my dad used to always play Frisbee, back in the day.

I slowed down near a tall tree and climbed it, arranging myself not very high up. When I was younger my dad always said he'd build a treehouse in this tree so that me and him could live there, eating sweets and chocolate. That was before he broke my mums heart, before he left her in a mess with no money and two children. Thinking back to the things he said he'd do but never did brought a tear to my eye and before I knew it I was crying a river. How could my dad just leave me? How could he leave mum and Curt? Why did he leave us? Rubbing my eyes, I took a deep breath. I ran my fingers through my hair and leaned against the tree.
