"I thought you were going to get me food??" I asked, teasing Cal. "But...I." Cal stuttered. "I'll call you when I know the room number." I said, shutting the door.
I followed the pretty nurse through several wings and hallways until she stopped in front of a room, with the label Lilly Reynolds and room 113 below it. The door was decorated with owls and pink flower stickers. "We can take off those if you want... Most of the patients in this area are children, but you still are young enough to be here." She explained. "It's fine." I said. I liked owls anyway.
The nurse pushed open the door to reveal a bluish-purple room, with a TV, a wardrobe, a blue recliner in the corner, and of course the hospital bed in the middle. There was also a huge window overlooking the city. "Wow... This is nice!" My mom said. "We just recently renovated the rooms on this wing, so you are one of the first to be in it." The nurse said proudly. "Cool.." I said, looking around.
"When will the doctor be here?" My dad asked the nurse. "He will be here in about 10 minutes to go over everything, and get Lilly situated. Lilly's nurse will also be here later to go over things also." She said. "Great. Thank you." My mom said. "No problem!" She said, walking out.
I realized that Cal was probably waiting for my call. I pulled out my phone and dialed his number.
RING
RING
"Hey." Cal said.
"I'm in room 113." I said.
"Cool." He said, and hung up.
10 MINUTES LATER
"Hello. I'm Dr.Sheilds." A tall man said, entering my room. "Hello, I'm Mr. Reynolds, and this is my wife." My dad said. They shook hands. "So you are Lilly! " Dr. Sheilds said, walking over to me. "Yes sir." I replied. "There's no need to be formal. Trust me, we will see each other a lot..." He said, laughing.
He went on to explain the treatment to us, answering any questions we had. After a while, he stood up. "If you have anything else to ask, here is my number." He said, handing me a yellow paper. "Your nurse will be here shortly. Bye Lilly." He said, smiling and left.
"I'm going to go get Lilly's bags out of the car." My dad said, standing up. "Ok." My mom said.
A couple minutes later, a lady walked in. "Hello Lilly. I'm Diane. I'm going to be with you every step of this." She said, smiling a genuine smile. She was not too short, but not tall, and had long wavy dark hair. She had icy blue eyes, and scrubs with teddy bears all over.
"First, you need to change." She said, handing me a white hospital gown. I went into the bathroom, and put it on.
I came out, and she took all my vitals. She checked my heart, blood pressure, etc. she situated me into my bed, making it super comfy. "I'm going to give you a IV now. It's not going to have anything hooked up to it yet, but we can do it later." She said, putting on gloves.
It didn't hurt too bad, but it still wasn't fun. When it was done she handed me a sucker. "The kids get them after shots." She said smiling. Right then my dad and Cal walked in.... With a girl following them.
"Lilly, this is Gabby." Cal said. A bell rang in my head. I recognized her now. We were BFFs at our camp. "Lilly!!" Gabby yelled running over. We hugged, and then I turned to face her. "What are you doing here??!" I asked, siting up. "I'm sick like you. But I'm better." She said. Then Diane hugged Gabby. "Are you feeling better Gabs?" Diane asked. "Way!!" She said. They saw my confused face. "I used to be her nurse when she was younger." Diane explained. "Oh." I said. "Well I guess I'll be going. Gabby, you need to go back to your room. It's almost dinner." Diane said. "Yeah... See you later Lil!" Gabby said, following Diane out.
"Why don't you guys go eat something. I'll be fine here." I said to my parents. "We don't want to leave you all alone!" My mom said. "She won't be. I've already eaten. I'll stay." Cal said. "Ok..." My Dad said hesitantly. "Well be quick." My mom said, following my dad out.
"How'd you find Gabby?" I asked Cal. "She was at the vending machine." He replied. "Cool." I said, turning on my TV. I was flipping through when I saw there was an option to play Wii. "Hey! Wanna play??" I asked Cal. "Sure. Mario Cart?" He said. "Yes!" I said, picking up a controller.
After me beating him 3 times, my parents came back.
"What did you eat?" I asked them. "Mcdonalds." My dad answered. "Mom..."I whined. "It's fine!!" She said. "When are y'all going to go home?" I asked. My mom gave me a look. "We were planning on staying here.." She said. "Guys!! Go home and rest!" I said. "At least go to a hotel!" I said. "It's just for a couple days, then we will do something else." My dad said. "Ugh." I groaned, dropping it.
An hour later Dr.Sheilds walked in. "I have the medicine." He said. "We are going to start small, and work our way up." He explained, hooking it up to my IV. "For the next few days you may be sleepy, but it will pass once you get used to it. If anything happens, like you get itchy or can't breathe, tell us immediately. I doubt it will happen though." He said. "Call me if you need anything." He said, walking out.
We watched TV for a while, when I got tired. "I'm going to go home. I will one back tomorrow morning." Cal said, gathering his things. "K. I was getting sleepy anyway.." I said. My eyes were drooping now. It kicked in fast... "Goodnight." Cal said, hugging me. "Goodnight.." I said, falling into a peaceful slumber.
