I woke up too Native birds churping all around and the soft humming of the river not to far away. I dragged myself out of my warm bed and crept over to the fire pit. There were a few glowing embers left. I had made sure to stack wood on it in the night.
Jim was still cuddled up beside the fire munching on what looked like a hoov from the piglet.
I got some small bits of wood and placed them on the fire in a way that air could still get to them and lightly blew air at the bottom of the ground brightening the embers. A small stick started catching fire and soon enough I had a fire going.
I boiled some river water in a small pot and picked some manuka leaves to make a tea. I found a gum tree and in the right season they have a very sweet sap that dries up like little icing sugar balls.
I found quite a few lying on the ground and collected them in my plaster container from my survival kit. I had more than I needed so I can surely save some.
The pot was starting to boil over so I quickly got it out of the fire and poured the tea into my tin cup and put some tree icing sugar into the cup and waited for my tea to cool down.
-------------------------------------------
My eyes are peering down at the strong current of the river. I found a small puddle wich I saw my reflection in. My long brunette hair was messy hanging down to my waist, my green eyes sparkeled over the water. I scooped up some water in my small hands and splashed my face in the freezing liquid.
I followed the river with Jimmy leading theway, and then I spotted movement behind a tree. "Hello, is someone there". But I saw nothing more. Until out jumped a person who looked about 17 holding a spear in one hand an had his other hand rested on his belt next too a knife.
I instantly swang my gun off of my sholder to rested against it ready too shoot. My bike had fallen to the ground. We just stood there completely silent even Jim had stopped barking and was a little confused.
The boy had dirty blond scruffy hair that was like a fringe swooped across his eyebrows. He had very muscely arms and an 8pack tanned to perfection. He had shorts with random patches of possom skin on them and they were covered in stains. This guy wasn't very clean I geuss you could say. But damn was he hot.
Above his hip was a small dent like mine and I soon realised he was one of them.
I slowly lowered my gun. "Um hi", I say but he doesn't budge. "Im lana and uh I um was... I was sent her by sara", I said and then he relaxes and slowly brings his spear to his side. "Oh um I have this burn thing that might help", I lift up my singlet and show exposing the mark that had bearly healed.
"Well why didnt you say so", he teases as he swings across the river on a rope that was hiden away up a tree. The current was very slow around here and so we could hear each others voices clearly.
"So uhh what now?", mentally cringing at myself. What am I even saying im so confused .
"Well we have an hour walk up to the old junk dump place and then just at the bottom of the ridge is home", he said seeming very perky. He slung his arm around my shoulder looking up at the sky blabbing on too me. "Why is this such a big deal, sorry not meaning to sound rude", cringe once again, crap how do I talk.
" no no its not rude, well first off there are only 4 girls...well 5 now hopefully. There are 19 boys, or men I prefer. The oldest is Ben who is 22, the youngest is 12 wich is joe, hes a little rascal dont trust em", I laugh a little at what he says. " not many girls make it here, I dont know if they get kiddnapped or they just dont get thrown out as easily as boys, but we have never had that many, He sighs.
"Has anyone ever died?", I ask instantly regreting it it. He bites his lip anxiously, "yeah...yeah my sister died", we were silent for a few minutes.
"How?", curiosity getting the better of me. "When I got sent away I was 14 and she was only 11, she followed me here even though she could have stayed in society she still came. When I got here I noticed her hidding behind me when we greeted Ben he was 20 at the time. He let her in, but I was really mad at her, sometimes I was relieved to have her here for me when I felt sad and missed my family. When she tried to fit in there was not much she could do even I was bearly coping. She wasnt very strong and the best thing she could do was dance. Oneday she was in the fields harvesting corn and she cut herself with the scythe. Bella the village nurse was very new and didnt know much all she could do was wash out the wound and put Kawakawa leaves on it...", he paused "...and she died of blood poisoning", he finished.
"Im sorry, I shouldn't have-" he interups me "no no seriously its algood....so whats your story?", he asks raising an eyebrow giving me a nudge.
"Well my name is lana", I start " thats a pretty name", he blurts out. " I punched this guy in the face-", i try to continue "ohh badass", he interups once again.
Our convosation continues on like this for a while it was pretty entertaining to be honest, I also found out his name is seven he wont tell me his real name though...wonder why...and he has a pet stoat and hunts for the vilage, he's pretty cool actually.
Any thoughts?
Hope yoy liked it and ill try update faster this time
