The Nest

ELEVEN

It's past mid day and I have been milking cows and caring for baby chickens, we are just about to move the sheep into another paddock, tie the goats to a different tree then I'll be able to head home for the day.

I have to say I really do love animals and I really enjoy this job.

Mia passes me a stick and we heard the 4 sheep into a new fresh grass filled field with a fence made out of logs and metal bars from the junk pile up on the hill, she points out all the sheep and their names " This ones Saun and over here we have Lola, then there is Lila who is really due for her lambs, they are a bit late in the season considering mid summer is on its way out but I'm sure they will pop out soon, and lastly we have Stud our big boy", Mia says proudly, she really loves her animals and I'm starting to love them too.

We lock up the gate and head over to the goats. "Okay Jay just unhook the chain and hook it onto that tree over there", she points to a small oak tree 20metres away. I do so giving the young billy goat a yank and dragging him over to the tree chaining him up, I put my hands on my hips feeling pleased with myself then head back over.

Once we are all done with the goats and have fed them some scraps I say " all done I really enjoyed myself thankyou", she smiles "well most people feel bush up around 3-4pm but I'll need you to come back again around 6pm just before dinner so I can show you how to bring the chooks back in for the night, sound good?", she replies, "sounds awesome!", I giggle.

I feel so happy around her she is always excited, her bright blue eyes light up when Chimp comes out from the barn after making another two laying boxes. She has one of the kind modest souls and such a bubbly nature. She is also very pretty with white blond wavy hair and a freckled face she could be 15 years old or maybe it's just that she is quite small.

She says goodbye then gives me a hug and I squeeze her back then we decide to meet back here in 2 hours. I smile leaving the barn I have a warm feeling in my heart when was the last time I felt a hug feel so nice, I have a flash back of my sister, it felt like that.

I'm in my car sorting out seeds and planting a few in the nice soft dirt, first I put a few potatoes into the ground with tires around them then I plant what I think is rhubarb which is a perfect vedgtable that grows all season.
I have a few more carrots that I plant into the ground and I put little fences around each then hang silver dishes above them to reflect more light down into them and once the night falls I can fully cover them with the dish to protect them if it's cold. I got the dishes from the outside of car tires, I think they are like covers.

Then I start putting some goat poo around the dirt to help them grow, I wipe my hands on my shorts feeling satisfied and turn to see Seven.

He smiles strangely "hello miss Houdini where the hell have you been?", he asks puzzles, oh no I need to make something up quick. "What are you talking about Iv been working all day, speaking of which I think I need to meet Mia to bring the chickens in before dark", I say getting up and slinging my bag on. " okay cool I'll walk you", he says and we walk and talk but lucky I get myself out of this one.

I wake up, it's another morning in my car last night I actually slept without overheating, maybe the summer is on it's way out.

I slip on my shorts a singlet, it's pretty early so I head over to the fire pit in main square it has small coals that are always burning to keep for cooking, there is always Somone around the area watching it. I put my pot of water on it then put some onions I bought last night, a few peices of jerkey, salt, and half a potato. It's not much but it tasted pretty alright I have to say, and the jerky became very soft to chew on.
