It's Christmastime once again. We've decided to celebrate in Gloucester this year and New Year in Mullingar. Ashlyn and Flynn are five years old and Emily is four. Nathan and Liz had welcomed their new baby girl, Brianna Jaclyn Sykes, three years ago.
It's nice to be back home very now and then despite One Direction's busy schedule. Sitting on a couch by the crackling fire place watching the kids play with Milo the corgi. Niall had his hand securely around my waist as I was leaning on his shoulders. Nathan on the other hand was teaching Liz how to play a song piano and it was coming along quite nicely.
As we enjoyed doing what we're doing, my younger sister, Jess, came in with a huge grin. I turned around and asked. "What's with the grin?"
"I want to tell you what it is at dinner but I'm too excited." She answered. "I am engaged!" My eyes widen and I think the same as I heard him hit the wrong key.
"What?" Nathan and I shouted in surprise. The kids stopped for playing for awhile but continued play after realising there was no real danger.
"You heard me right." She said proudly and showed her ring to prove it.
"Who's the guy?" Nathan asked as rolled his hand into a fist while making his way closer to us
"His name is Nick, he's in the kitchen. Please be nice to him." Jess explained as Nathan went to the kitchen. I reassured Jess as I followed him into the kitchen.
"So you're marrying my sister?" Nathan confronted the unfamiliar figure in the kitchen.
"Ah, you must be Nathan, right ? I'm Nick, and yes I proposed to your sister this morning." The figured answer.
He was about 5' 11", had dirty blonde hair with green eyes. He looked like he was the kind of person who does a lot of sports but isn't a jerk like those typical 'Captain of the Football Team' who'd the head of the cheer squad. He actually seems nice
"Why do all my sisters get engaged before I approve of their boyfriends?" Nathan asked out of frustration.
"Perks of being a pop star, eh?" I teased and playful nudged him.
"Hey Kate, where are all the gingerbread cookies?" Niall asked as he entered the kitchen. I told him the location of the cookies and he nodded.
"Is that Niall Horan of One Direction?" Nick asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"The one and only." He answered with a small chuckle.
"My sister is a huge fan of you guys. She's back in Brighton though." Nick said.
"Daddy! It's been more than five minutes, where are the cookies?" Flynn pouted as he entered the kitchen. Niall gave him the whole jar then he scampered off.
"Have only one question for you, Nick." Nathan interrogated, pacing backing in forth. "Which football team do you support?"
"Manchester United." He answered with a smirk. Jess has been telling him about Nathan's love for Man U and it's probably the only way to for him to approve of Nick.
"Ewww...Real Madrid all the way!" I voiced out.
"Shut up, I never asked for your opinion." Nathan turned to me then turned to Nick. "I approve of you marrying my sister"

Christmas Day
"MOMMY! DADDY! WAKE UP! IT'S CHRISTMAS!" I heard an Irish accent exclaimed. I flutter my eyes opened to see Emily jumping on the bed.
I smiled and carried her off the bed. "Go downstairs and see if nana has anything in the kitchen. Mommy and daddy will be down soon." I kissed her on the forehead then watched her scamper off. I turned my head to Niall who was pretending to be asleep.
"I know that you're awake." I whisper into his ear.
"You know me too well. Merry Christmas." He greeted followed by a kiss.
"Yuck, morning breath." I playful commented. "Merry Christmas to you too."
"We'd better get going. The kids are probably waiting for us." He kisses me then went to freshen up. I follow him and tie my messy long hair into a bun.
Still in my pyjamas, I walked downstairs with Niall behind me. I first head off to the kitchen where there was a strong smell of freshly prepared breakfast. I entered and noticed that kids had the biggest grin their faces. I smiled and kissed each of their heads.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS!" They announced together.
Ashlyn stepped forward. "We made you cookies but I ate one." Ash presented the cookies to me and Niall. I looked at my mum who just winked.
"Eating a cookie before me? That's me girl." Niall ruffled her hair.
Throughout breakfast, Nathan and I try our best not to act like five year olds but fail miserably. We ended up stealing bits of food off each other. Luckily the kids didn't get the wrong idea and just laughed us.
"Last one to the living room is a rotten egg!" Nathan declared as he rushed to the living room. The kids all push each other along the way as they compete to be the first.
I sat on the couch and Niall joined me then wrapped his arm around me. The kids were like shredders, tearing the wrapping paper that revealed their gifts. Of course they had receive a bunch of toys from everyone. While they were doing that, Niall and I had to agree to give Liz and Nathan their gifts.
"Here Nath, Liz, a little something from Niall and I." I smiled and passed a nicely wrapped envelope. Nathan raise an eyebrow as he unraveled the envelope. Liz opened the envelope and her jaw dropped as she passed it to Nathan who had the same reaction.
"Are you serious?" Nathan asked with shock in his tone.
"Now our gift seems horrible." Liz said as she rubbed the back of her head with a sheepish smile.
"You guys deserve it." I told them.
"A three day trip to Spain, we've paid for everything including hotel and flight tickets and return tickets. You guys need it after all the touring and swim competitions." Niall explained.
"Thank you so much, Kate." Nathan said and embraced me into a hug. I smiled and hugged back.
"Here are your gifts." Liz said as she handed two small gift boxes for both of us. We took a box each and opened it. It was metal guitar pick with our names engraved. It was so small yet so precious.
"Aww... Thanks big bro and Lizzie." I pulled him into a hug while he was off guard. He just smiled and hugged back.
"Mommy! I got a doll that looks like Uncle Nath." Emily exclaimed as she came in with a Nathan doll.
"Seriously Nath?" I asked.
A/N: That was the fastest 10 votes I've gotten, thank you all so much :) There are two more chapters of this story but it's not the end I'll be writing Nathan's side of the story which will be more towards his relationship with Liz, and doesn't exactly follow this story line, Kate will make some appearances and so will Niall but only because he tags along with Kate. It will be out somewhere around middle of September.
