Age 15
Naruto aged 1
It had been a year since that fated day and I was becoming more and more attached to the boy as days went by. He had began to try to talk and managed to utter out a few words such as Katsu, food, hi etc. He was currently crawling around the flat while I made Kakashi and I some food. He had become increasingly active in our lives and I was grateful for it. I enjoyed spending time with him of course, but I could tell that Naruto liked having him here as well. People still glared at him everytime he even went outside, but I glared straight back causing them to look away and leave us be. It sickened me how they talked about him and looked at him. His parents had risked their lives for this village and this boy was innocent. They should be proud of him for having such great parents and feel sorry that he was forced to take on such a big responsibility such as having the Kyuubi sealed inside of him. Minato had done this to him and sometimes I questioned his reasoning, but other times I knew that he did what he did for a reason. He must've believed in his son that much to do this. I also believed in Naruto strongly as he reminded me of both of his parents. I had a feeling that he would wish to be Hokage just like his mother and father, but only time would tell. Motherhood was hard but I had gotten the hang of it and knew how to care for him now. Kakashi was still lost on what to do but he was improving. Any time I needed to disappear on a mission, Kakashi would look after him while I was gone. However, going on missions was almost rare now due to Hiruzen knowing that I was looking after Naruto full time. He needed love and that was what he was going to receive. Stuff what the others thought. Anko and Kurenai popped round every so often as well as others that knew me such as Mikoto, Itachi and Sasuke. Sasuke seemed happy to find someone his own age while Itachi watched them play with a proud smile on his face. He cared deeply for his brother and I admired him for his hard work as a Shinobi.
"You're doing really well with him you know." Mikoto smiled at me, her eyes focused on her two sons and my little Naruto.
"I hope so." I chuckled, rubbing the back of my neck. Itachi wandered up and sat down on the sofa beside me.
"Mum's right, Katsu-nee. You're great." He smiled encouragingly. Ruffling his hair, I pulled him in for a side hug.
"Well thank you Itachi. That's very sweet of you to say." I laughed. I felt touch my leg and looked down to see that Sasuke had crawled over to me and was holding his arms up, waiting for me to pick him up. "Sasu.... Hello sweetie...." I cooed, picking him up and holding him in my arms. He giggled happily and smiled up at me in a cute manner. Naruto stared over at Sasuke and I from where he was playing and I saw tears well up in his eyes. He looked annoyed and upset at the same time. Mikoto chuckled from beside me and took Sasuke from my arms.
"I think a certain little one's jealous." She sounded amused as she looked over at Naruto who was watching me carefully, his face still scrunched up in annoyance and tears in his eyes.
"He's really attached to you." Itachi piped in, nudging me slightly to go pick him up. Laughing, I stood up and walked over, crouching down next to him and holding my arms out to him. His face lit up though he still seemed to be pouting. Picking him up, he snuggled up against my chest and hung on to a strand of my hair. Now that he was in my embrace, he seemed to relax completely and fell asleep against my chest.
"Guess he is....." I murmured softly, a smile slipping onto my lips. He would always be a weakness of mine because I cared deeply for him. After all, he was the little brother I never had. I heard a yawn and looked up to see Sasuke falling asleep in his mother's arms.
"Suppose we should head home now. If there's anything you need, feel free to let me know of course. I'll see you soon." Mikoto smiled warmly, standing up and making her way to the front door. Itachi hugged me round the waist before running off after his mum with a wave to me. He shut the door behind him, leaving only Naruto and I in the flat. I went into our bedroom and laid him down in the crib that I'd bought for him the second day of living here.
"Goodnight little man." I cooed softly, leaning down to kiss his forehead. Moving to the kitchen, I began to cook myself some salmon and rice.As I was cooking, there was a knock at the door. Making sure the food was fine to leave, I rushed out into the hallway and pulled the door open. Kakashi stood there with his normal outfit and mask. I gestured for him to come in before returning to the kitchen. The door was shut behind him as he entered and followed me into the kitchen, taking a seat at the table and just watching me cook.
"What?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"When I first met you, I never imagined you cooking or taking care of a child." He admitted with a shrug.
"And I didn't imagine you helping me look after a child. But look how things turned out." I smirked, poking my tongue out at him. "Can you get two bowls and one plate out please?" He nodded and silently went to the cupboards, opening one and pulling out what I asked for. He set them on the table along with some knives and forks. Smiling in thanks, I began to serve the food, sharing the rice between the two of us and putting the cooked salmon on the plate between us. He sat down and I laughed when his stomach began to growl. "Hungry?" I asked amused.
"I knew you'd be cooking around this time so I made sure I had enough room." He shrugged, sounding nonchalant.
"I'm not your housewife." I sighed, sounding annoyed but feeling amused.
"So?" He raised an eyebrow in question and left it at that. Not answering him, I chuckled and sat down opposite him, digging into my food immediately. "Are you going to let him go to the ninja school?"
"Of course I am. He takes after his parents after all. I wouldn't stop him if he wanted to." I smiled, picking up a piece of the chopped up salmon with the chop sticks and eating it quickly. Kakashi wasn't the only one who was hungry, I was as well. Being a mother figure or even sister figure was hard work. Looking after a young child took a lot of effort and also meant your attention had to be on them at all times. They were troublesome and could get up to mischief within seconds.
"Are you going to work as an ANBU again once he starts going to school?" He asked curiously. Well he was sure talkative today....
"I dunno...... It's too early to decide that yet. If I'm gone on missions then what if something happens to Naruto? What if I'm not here to help him or what if I'm not informed?" I sighed, running a hand through my hand in frustration and worry.
"I'm here as well you know?" Kakashi mumbled quietly, almost sounding embarrassed.
"I know." I beamed. "I'm thankful to you for that. You're a great friend Kakashi." Although I'd like us to be more.... He seemed to frown beneath his mask at my words but recovered into a neutral expression like his usual one.
"Yeah, well..... I might as well be the man of the house. You don't do much." His voice was teasing which contrasted to his neutral expression but I could see mischief in his only showing eye. After the moment Obito gave him the Sharingan, he kept it covered as he couldn't control it as well due to not being an Uchiha. It tired him if he kept it on display so covering it made it dormant and allowed him to keep his energy.
"I'm stronger than you Kakashi, don't you forget that." I smirked, a challenge in my voice. It was true. He was an excellent shinobi but I could always beat him in a fight. He rolled his eyes but I saw a smile show beneath his mask which made me feel happy. We hung out for a while before I noticed how late it was getting. Kakashi said his goodbyes and left after a while which left me to lock up, clean the dishes and check up on Naruto. He was sleeping peacefully and had a smile on his angelic sleeping face. He wasn't a demon nor was he a monster. He was just a cute and lovable boy who people needed to recognise as innocent. Changing into a long top that had belonged to Kushina, I hopped into bed and fell asleep pretty quickly. What would his school days be like I wonder......
