Red eyes fluttered open to reveal a bedroom. Somebody must have found me and placed me here.... but who? My question was answered when a couple walked in. The male had bright, blue eyes and spiky, blonde hair. He also had jaw-length bangs framing either side of his face. He wore a short-sleeved long white haori over his normal attire, closed in the front by a thin, orange rope. The haori was decorated by red flame-like motifs on the edges, with the kanji for "Fourth Hokage" (Yondaime Hokage) written vertically down the back. This man was the Hokage?! Looking to the left of him, I saw the women staring back at me with a soft smile. She had a slender, but feminine build, fair skin, violet eyes and long red hair. It reached her waist with should-length strands that framed both sides of her face and a black clip that parted her hair to the left. She wore a high-collared, sleeveless blouse under a long, loose-fitting green dress with a black wristband on her left wrist and standard sandals. This must be the Hokage's wife.
"What is your name?" The woman asked softly, her eyes taking in my own red hair and red eyes with shock.
"Katsu." I replied simply, my voice slightly hoarse. She noticed this and walked out of the room, informing her husband she would bring back some water.
"Why were you collapsed outside the gates?" The blonde Hokage asked in a kind voice.
"I....... ran." My voice became quieter and unsure of what to say. Should I tell him or not?
"From what or who?" He seemed confused by my answer and looked concerned.
"The man who left me........ to die." I informed him. His eyes widened and he looked appalled at my words.
"Who was this man?" He demanded.
"Minato, leave the poor girl alone." The female scolded, coming back into the room and walking over to the bedside holding a glass of water. "She needs rest." She helped me drink some of the water before putting it down on a bedside table nearby. "You rest now, we'll be just outside." She smiled warmly towards me, pushing her husband out of the room and leaving me alone. They seemed to be kind and decent people. The only problem was, what were they going to do with me?.....

I woke up again a couple hours later and felt my body ache slightly but it didn't hurt as much. My wounds seemed to be healing under the bandages as well. Had they used a healing jutsu on me after they found me? I felt grateful towards the couple who kept me in their home and their bed, and knew that I owed them my life. After all, they had saved me.
"Oh, you're awake." The female smiled, walking into the room and sitting on the edge of the bed. "You've been unconscious for three weeks." She informed me with a slight frown before smiling again. "But you've seemed to recover well and look to be ready to get up on your feet."
"What are your names?" I asked hesitantly, wondering if it was rude to ask the Hokage's wife a question.
"My name's Kushina Uzumaki, and the man before was my husband Minato Namikaze." She introduced the two of them, not at all phases by my question.
"He was the Hokage?" She nodded in response and I felt myself becoming wary. What if he found me a threat and tossed me out to survive for myself after I'd healed. Kushina seemed to sense my panic and let out a soft chuckle.
"You're fine here, I promise. He won't toss you out of Konoha. Instead, we want you to live with us here. Do you have any family?"
"My parents................ were............. killed in front of me." I stammered, remembering them pleading that I not see their deaths. Orochimaru didn't allow this and instead forced me to watch as my parents were murdered in front of me. Torn apart in a gruesome way. Kushina saw the pain on my face and horror crossed onto her own. She pulled me into a hug, being careful of the injuries and just held me in silence. This was a new feeling to me. Of course my parents had held me before but strangers had never touched me. Not when I was a lab rat for Orochimaru or just a baby. She felt me tense up but just ran a hand through my hair in a soothing manner.
"You won't have to go through that pain again. I promise." She told me in a soft voice. Pulling away I gave her a blank expression before a smile curled up on to my lips. I hadn't smiled in a very long time. She seemed excited at seeing me smile and began calling for Minato. "Minato! Look how cute she is when she smiles!" She beamed. Minato entered into the room and looked over to see me smiling back at him. He gave me a happy grin and walked over, lifting his hand before ruffling my hair.
"You were right. She is very cute when she smiles." He agreed with a chuckle.
"Will you really allow me to stay here?" I murmured warily, glancing between the couple. They both nodded and I silently thanked them. I was grateful to the two of them so much that I could never repay them.

Time passed by when Kushina decided that we would go shopping for some clothes and ninja equipment. I'd informed them of my past and they didn't seem scared of how people I'd killed at such a young age. Instead, Minato decided that he would test my fighting ability to see if I could be a shinobi in Konoha.
"Come on Katsu. Let's go!" Kushina grinned, holding the front door open for me to go past her. Stepping out, I got a good look at the rest of Konoha. It was beautiful. So many people were wandering around going about their daily lives and chatting merrily with others. Kushina saw my expression of awe and laughed. "Come on." She gave me a pat on the back and ushered me along beside her, reaching down and holding my hand.

In town, we received many curious glances and smiles from the people. Kushina was greeted by multiple men and women who she greeted in return with a smile or hello. Kushina dragged me from shop to shop before we bumped into a boy with gravity defying white hair and grey eyes.
"Ah, Kakashi!" Kushina exclaimed. He turned to face us, the lower half of his face covered by a mask.
"Kushina-san. Hello." He replied stoically.
"This here is Katsu. Katsu, this is Kakashi Hatake. Minato is his team leader." She explained with a smile.
"Hi......." I mumbled warily. He studied me before holding out his hand which I hesitantly shook.
"Hello." He nodded in greeting before excusing himself politely and walking away. Kushina watched him walk away with a sad smile in her face. Why did she look that way?......
"Well, our shopping is done now." She grinned, gesturing the bags we both held. "Shall we get something to eat? How about Ramen? You'll love it I'm sure." Shrugging, I followed after her through the crowds of people to arrive at a food place. We took a seat and she ordered two bowls of Ramen for us. As I began to eat with the chop sticks, flavors that I'd never experienced before hit my taste buds and I became addicted. Digging in, I practically shoveled the food into my mouth causing Kushina to laugh and so did the man serving us the food. "Glad to see you like it." She spoke up amused at my behaviour. This was the best food I had ever had the pleasure of eating. It was my new favourite thing. I couldn't believe how lucky I was to meet these people and make a new life for myself. I hoped that my mother and father were happy for me and proud of how I'd survived for so long....
