A Step Farther

I walked into the police station and all eyes were on me. It was really embarrassing. Captain Singh came up to me. He asked me where I had been and told me to go do work. I walked up the stairs with my head down. I finished a few cases and filed them. By the time, I had finished it was nine o' clock at night and I was hungry. I did the proper thing and went home, packed a duffle bag, got some movies and popcorn. I went to Cait's house.

When I got there I knocked on the door. She opened it and smiled at me. I held up the movies and popcorn and she gestured me in. I made the popcorn and put the movie in as Cait got in her pj's. As the popcorn popped I used my speed to get in my pj's. When the popcorn was done popping, I put it in a bowl and got two glasses of water. I sat down on the couch and waited to start the movie. When Cait sat down I started the movie. She looked different. She had fully taken off her makeup and gotten into sweats and a tank top, instead of her normal cute pj's.  It wasn't a bad different, it was a good different. We watched the movie, in silence, occasionally looking at each other. When the movie was over we didn't go to bed.

"You know you pretty much stay here most nights, why don't you just move in?" Cait said getting up and collecting our dirty dishes.

"Yeah, that would be awesome!" I said, getting up to help her with the dishes.

We did the dishes together. Well, I guess I did most of it, but oh well. After the dishes, we crawled into bed. We fell asleep pretty fast.

When I woke up the next morning it was the usual, Cait was still asleep. I carefully got up and got dressed. I ran out to the store to get pancake mix and flowers. I bought the pancake mix and periwinkles. When I got to the apartment, I took out Cait's key and opened the door. I set the flowers in a vase and put them on the table. I started the pancakes. As I waited, I set the table. I heard her get out of bed. She went in the bathroom and the shower started. I still have time. My phone buzzed. It was Joe. Crap. Where are you? You weren't home at all last night. I texted him back. Sorry, was at Cait's, see you at the station. I have big news! :) And just like that, our conversation was over. I flipped the pancakes. When I was finished, I stacked all eight pancakes on a plate and set it on the table. Cait came out.

"Morning beautiful," I said.

"Morning handsome," She replied.

"So, I have to go to work at the police station, but do you wanna go to dinner tonight?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'd love to!" She exclaimed.

"I'll pick you up at eight at S.T.A.R. Labs," I told her.

We sat down. She picked her two pancakes while I grabbed the other six.  She handed me something. It was a box. I opened it up. It was a key to her apartment. I wasn't an ordinary metal key, it had lightning bolts on it.

"Oh my gods, thank you so much!" I said in awe.

"No problem, I had one made when you started spending the night," She told me.

"I love it!" I said.

When we finished eating, I did the dishes while Cait got dressed. When I finished I used my speed to get ready for the day. I said goodbye to Cait in the parking lot of the apartment building before running to the police station.

"Hey, Joe!" I said, coming off the elevator.

"Woah Barry you're early for work, that doesn't happen," I said in awe.

"I was thinking, if you have time, that we could go to Jitters for some coffee," I asked.

"Yeah, sure I have some time," He said, putting papers down on his desk.
