A/n: This is my tiny first shot at writing fandom angst (yeah it's gonna be sad/probably bad.)

This is written from Hanji's Pov however I assure you it's a Levi x Reader.

Numerous battles won both in and outside of the walls had allowed Hanji Zoe to form a powerful bond titled friendship with the short male. He remained somewhat scarce with his use of words even around his most trusted acquaintance, the few they did exchange usually landed along the lines of banter at each others expense. Levi was an honourable man, though he'd remain visibly emotionless when labelled with the title and would water down it's importance by insisting it be shared with fellow troops. Rarely did he crack a smile, though she'd known him long enough to detect the slightest touch of warmth that contrasted in his boulder grey eyes. Naturally, it was such an ability that made it obvious the effect Y/n's presence had on the soldier. He'd never voice such things of course, and she'd well and truly come close to a broken nose numerous times when teasing him about it. No one would've blamed him for admiring you though; many titled you smart, kind and a well loved member of the survey corps.

Abiding by the unspoken laws handed down to one's best friend, of course she had to discuss Levi's evident feelings for you. She feared you may have keeled over at the revelation at the news- only because such feelings were reciprocated. Much to her relief and joy, Levi was rather pleased at how the events had unfolded. Soon after the mutual admittance to one and other, you both began your relationship.

She almost had to look twice when seeing him stand by your side. Her eyes bulged from behind the glass of her aids as they remained fixed on the slight curve of his lips that soon evolved into much more. For once, it was as though her best friend took on the form of a stranger performing some absurd stunt. He was unrecognisable to say the least. Don't be fooled however- the sight undoubtedly warmed her heart.

No matter how many times she witnessed it, she never became used to the Levi that sat beside her. An emotion kindled upon his features whenever he was around you, it was a sensation more powerful than any other- he loved Y/n. Simple as that. She knew, deep down, that at last you'd done the unthinkable; you'd bought back the real Levi, the one whom allowed himself to be cared for. A man unrecognisable as the corporal to all but you.

Her blades met with the nape of the large humanoid beast in a victorious shriek. She let out a cheer of celebration as it dropped beneath her before being carried upward onto the lessened danger of a rooftop. Her gear clicked back into place as she hopped beside you, a congratulatory smile present on your face.

"I'll handle that one over there, Y/n that one's all yours," he brandished a slightly confident grin, as if challenging you to a game you happily accepted. Without a word you both parted ways that were meant to be nothing but temporary, however the sound of rubble rendered it anything but.

She watched in sheer horror as the giant beast bit down on your left limb and waist. Her body froze before launching forward in sheer determination- a petty attempt at salvaging your life. The corner of her line of sight eyed your bloodied form dropping helplessly to the ground below alongside many pieces of building. In an instant the damned specimen was met with a similar fate, though it's loss was hardly felt at all. She watched as an emerald green cloak contrasting a mop of dark hair that soon came to halt by your side. Her heart dropped, and her stomach threatened to spew whatever was inside it at the sight.

By the time she too dared to approach her superior and his most treasured companion, she once again found familiarity in his face. Her clutched your paling palm, longing to be gentle though squeezing it tightly in an attempt to keep a hold on the final ounce of existence you retained. There was an immense amount of life force pooling at the gaping hole in your side, you eyes only maintained a glint when staring into those of the man holding you. In a final siege you weakly choked out the words, "I love you Levi" before at last meeting a peaceful end. Her own figure remained frozen in disbelief, her eyes glistening with sorrow at the corpse of her comrade and friend. The onyx haired male remained still, his hand clutching tightly around your s/c palm before placing it gently atop your chest. Ebony strands teased by the wind framed his rigid face. Many emotions coursed through him, though he no longer had the courage to bare them. He stood up and spun on his heel before manoeuvring away without a word. Her gaze followed his figure as it jumped from rooftop to rooftop- the image of his face still haunting her mind.

Her best friend had returned to his old self as many might say. But she knew, deep down that he was gone once again. The true Levi, the one that smiled and allowed the love he received to take affect had disappeared.

That Levi was gone, much like the only person capable of brining him back- Y/n.
