The low breeze, bright sunlight and overall warmth in the HQ contrasted by the frequent grunts of young cadets would've had anyone believing it was to be merely another day. Though in usual spirits, Y/N L/N would hear of no such thing. You were everyone's favourite squad leader; kind, caring, not too heavy with punishments and overall boasted an impressive ability to make even menial tasks fun. Ah yes, you appeared different in comparison to most of your comrades, namely a certain corporal whom bore a stature that matched his temper. Short as hell.

You were polar opposites, though your closest friend was not to be fooled by such claims. Hanji, though a veritable genius, seemed unable to understand the concept of remaining inconspicuous when needling you about your certain feelings for that very same man. "Just tell him!" She'd demand every time she caught you even glancing his way. Your e/c eyes would retreat into a roll of annoyance to conceal your true emotion of disappointment. The problem was, you seldom had the time to approach him and truly get to know him before making such avowals. You were far from shy, though even Levi's distant demeanour had you staying away. You'd only ever exchanged brief conversations others would dub mundane. You held such memories close however, for you feared that would never change.
That was, until, a certain saviour crossed your path oneday.

---

You blinked in surprise at the unusually tender sight before you; the very commander of the scouting legion was reduced to a grinning heap as he stroked the belly of your newest companion. Whilst out exercising your steed, you'd come across a lonely pooch- a mastiff presumably. With no one around you feared for the creature's safety and beckoned for him to follow you home.

Erwin hesitantly pulled away and regained his air of hegemony, the curves of his lips dipping even more slightly. "We've never allowed pets before, Y/n..."

Your heart sank and as if out of instinct, you clutched the canine closer. With eyes bright and in a matching tone of pleading as the animal by your side, you spoke.

"Please, sir, I feel a canine companion would help lift the spirits of the cadets after our expeditions," you were surprised at your own ability to speak against your superior. It appeared Erwin was also somewhat shocked by the action; his brows parted upon coming to the conclusion that such an idea was important to you, the legion, and him. A confirming hint of a smile crossed his face once again.

"Very well," was his only comment before both you and your companion were dismissed.

---

The sight of you unaccompanied had become unheard of in the headquarters. Zeus, your newest furry four legged companion was quite the attraction; drawing a grin from even the most indifferent cadets. Wherever you went, Zeus bounded along beside you with a far from subtle group of admirers trailing behind. It had been too long since you'd seen such happiness within the corps- you dubbed the dog's arrival a blessing.

Though one morning, for a moment, you believed it a curse. Your voice beckoned for Zeus as you travelled the many halls, each canineless corner you turned only furthering your tone of desperation. Had you not felt a wave of relief upon sighting him head deep in a bucket, the entirety of the scouting legion would've heard you and joined the search. "There you are I was-" your sentence was cut short by another figure stepping before you. Immediately you pinned it as Levi- the actions that followed were awfully signature to him.

With a low grunt he shooed the large canine away from the soapy water; his scowling expression followed it's form before landing on you. With a gulp you began half heartedly spilling words of scold at Zeus. Your eyes remained trained on the ground however; for your hadn't the nerve to see Zeus's saddened expression or Levi's angered one for that matter.
