Rolling over on bed, I slowly open my eyes, closing them and reopening them to adjust to the light shining in through the window. I stretch off my arms and yawn as I lie comfortably on the bed staring out into the blue sky. The view from this attic window is breath taking.
I grab my phone and check to see the time is just past nine in the morning. I take a picture of the view and post it on Instagram just like any teenager would do. I made a new account for myself because I can't use my Jade one while I'm in disguise as Kate. I didn't make a new Facebook though, because I just couldn't be bothered and I don't use it much anyway.
I look away from my phone when I hear a knock on the door.
"Come in."
"Oh, good you're awake. I thought I would have to wake you up and I hate waking girls up. They're just so fussy. Anyway, mum said breakfast is in thirty minutes and you really need to come down and tell her that we were back before midnight last night because she doesn't believe me," Adrian says. That's rather stereotypical of him because not all girls are fussy. I actually think I'm quite a morning person... sometimes.
"Yeah. I'm just going to have a shower then I'll get dressed and be down there. Do you know what she's making?"
"Bacon, egg and sausages especially for you," he answers with a fake smile on the end. It's as if he's jealous Susan's making food especially for me.
He walks off and I go to my bag I bought with me and take out my bathroom essentials and some clothes. I brought a black draped circle top and some grey skinny jeans. I brought my black vans too but I'm not going to put them on until I go out because it's not my house to be wearing shoes inside.
I walk into the bathroom that's in the attic and quickly take a shower and brush my teeth. Once I'm out, I towel dry my hair and put on my clothes. The nail polish on my toes is fading and some is chipped off which makes them look horrible so I put on white ankle socks to cover my feet up.
Downstairs in the kitchen, I help Susan set the breakfast table with plates and cutlery. Unlike our kitchen, this kitchen doesn't have an island. At home, we usually sit around the island for breakfast.
"It's very sweet of you to help me, Kate. My Adrian could do with someone like you to help him learn a thing or two about manners," Susan says as I switch the kettle on for some tea. I do hope she wasn't implying anything there.
"It's the least I could do," I smile as I put orange juice out on the table for Jenifer. "Susan, you wouldn't mind if I go out today would you? It's just that school starts tomorrow and I need to do a few things before tomorrow," the latter was a lie. I actually need to go and see Mark across the road for the flowers he was supposed to buy for me and then I need to head off to the cemetery to see Angelina like I do every year.
"Of course you can. Thank you for asking me otherwise I would be heartbroken to tell your mother I lost you on your first stay here. That was a bad joke. I really shouldn't joke," she says. I don't know what to say because I actually think she shouldn't joke either.
"No, you shouldn't," Adrian says and I'm actually quite thankful he did come in the kitchen just now and say something otherwise it would have been really awkward replying to Susan.
Susan doesn't say anything back to Adrian probably because I'm sitting here. She must be embarrassed. I know I would be.
We eat breakfast in peace once Jenifer comes down. The conversation is mainly on Frozen as we eat and Adrian looks like he is going to burst. I guess he isn't a big fan of Disney movies.
