It's six in the evening and Shane is going to be here in an hour to pick me up so that only gives me fifty-five minutes to get ready if I want to be waiting on the porch to avoid my parents seeing him and starting a whole new interrogation.
I get my hair out of the towel that it's drying in and begin to blow dry it. Then I put it into a waterfall braid and curl the ends. I move onto my makeup and decide that I will do a smokey eye to make myself look more awake. I go all out on my makeup this time just because it's my first party of the year and I have been somewhat personally invited. However, it does not look too over the top and I most certainly don't look like a birthday cake. I finish everything off with a red lip and then move on to find a dress.
I search and search and search for the perfect dress to wear and just when I'm about to decide to throw on a top and jeans, my eyes fall upon the perfect little black dress. It's a strapless one that cinches in at the waist and then flows back out to accentuate my curves that I've been working on. It's tight enough to show them, but not too tight that it sticks to my body like second skin. It ends about four inches above my knee. It's a perfect dress for this party.
I zip the dress up and pair it with black platform heels and a black clutch to hold my phone and keys. The clutch has gold detailing so I decide to wear a gold necklace and a black and gold bracelet. I'm glad I opted for the red lip because this outfit is so plain.
I take my phone off the charger and grab my keys, putting them both into my clutch. There's still three minutes left until Shane needs to pick me up so I head downstairs and wait by the door in hopes that we can leave as soon as possible.
Suddenly, I hear laughter in the living room and go to investigate. Much to my surprise, Shane's sitting there on the sofa having a ball of a time with my parents and little Liam.
"When did you get here?" I ask Shane.
"Oh, he's been here for a good few minutes, darling. He wanted to make sure we were alright with you going to the party," dad says.
"But you're always alright with me going to parties," I point out.
"I just thought I'd pop in a bit early to meet your parents. You know, to let them know you're safe with me. We don't want them worrying. It was the least I could do," Shane pipes in.
"Such a gentlemanly thing to do. Besides, Jade, we're happy that he came in to see us beforehand. It's nice to know you're finally starting to have fun after everything with A-"
"Ok, mum. We're going to go now," I cut mum off before she can narrate my personal life to Shane.
"Ok, darling. Be safe. Remember to be home before one," mum says, sheepishly, realising what she was about to do.
"No!" dad interjects, "midnight at the latest."
"Honey," mum warns, "let Jade have some fun."
"Fine. Make sure you've got your keys," dad grunts.
I say bye and then drag Shane outside with me.
"You didn't have to come to see the parents. It's not like we're in a relationship that you're obliged to do so or something."
"My mother taught me to be a gentleman, so a gentleman I will be. Your parents seem like nice folks."
"Yeah, they're the best," I trail off, thinking about Hailey. I wonder how she's doing in prison.
I see Dean's car pull up and he gets out quickly and narrows his eyes at me.
"Where are you going?" he asks.
