"Ok, class. I've got you standing at the back of the room because there's a new seating plan like there is every half term," Miss Dupont, my French teacher, begins in her strong accent, "I have put you next to each other according to your grades and how I think you will work with one another. You have been assigned to tables of four. I know the final exam is done and completed but I thought we may as well do some group work to prepare us for our French trip next week. But don't worry, it is fun. When I call out your name, please be seated."
I zone out until I hear my name.
"Seated on the next table is Kate, Sasha, Adrian and Noah," she says beckoning us to come and sit. Oh no, Adrian and Noah seriously don't get on well. Sasha is ok, I suppose. We never really talked but I know she's shy so we'll get on well because shy people turn out to be the talkative one's once you get to know them.
I'm first at the table so I sit down, tucking my bag under the desk thinking that Sasha will sit next to me. But, to my dismay, Adrian slips in beside me before Sasha gets the chance.
"I'm not sitting next to him," is all Adrian says for the remainder of the lesson.
I wait eagerly for the bell to go so I can get out of French and go back home to my nice warm bed.
"Kate, can I talk to you for a minute, please?" Miss Dupont asks, coming up from behind me.
"Yeah, sure," I respond following her to her desk.
"I have heard that you have paid Jade's family through the school for the trip. Here's a letter telling you everything you need to know," she says as the bell goes. I'm so tempted to just run out without letting her finish.
After she dismisses the class she turns back to me, "I hope this helps you with what you need to pack. It's got the schedule for the three days and what you need to bring with you. I'm so excited to have a new person in my class. You're not finding any trouble with sitting next to Adrian are you? He can be a bit... you know," she asks not finishing what she's about to say.
"No problem at all. I'm getting on fine. And before you ask, I did do French in my other school and the exam went quite well."
She just laughs and tells me I can leave. Grabbing my bag from my desk, I walk out the classroom to come face to face with Emily.
I just dodge past her and make my way down the hall to the school doors.
"Kate! I'm sorry, ok? I've realised my mistake. I shouldn't have said anything. It was wrong of me. I just wanted him to know how hard it is for you and to make him feel bad for what he and his friends did by bullying you. They had no right and you should have seen his face once you left. He looked genuinely sorry for what they did to you. Can you please forgive me?" she asks, coming up behind me.
"You're right, it was wrong of you. But I have no one apart from you and other than what you did today; you've always been there for me and always supported me. I seriously don't know what I would do without you and for that, I forgive you. I'm sorry for walking off and thanks for not coming after me. I appreciate the space you gave me," I say turning around to face her.
"Thank you so much and it's ok. I was pretty annoyed that you left though, because you left me on my own with that twat face aka Kyle," she laughs. We continue laughing as we walk out the crowded school gates.
I come to a stop and my jaw drops when I see a suited up Ben with fancy looking sunglasses covering his eyes standing there with broad shoulders and arms crossed in front of him, surrounded by a crowd of people and I'm pretty sure my jaw has reached the floor when I see the car he's brought with him which is probably the reason for my chauffeur being crowded.
